50 Amp Service Question

Our current spot at Copper Breaks State Park shows 50 amp at the pedestal. Yet, our Progressive EMS shows no draw on Leg 1 and about 15-17 amps on Leg 2 with both A/C running. Why no draw on leg 1?

Yesterday while using the washer we got the E6 error undervoltage as EMS cut power. Resetting breaker re-established power to the coach and we were OK as long as both A/C and W/D weren't all running.

Ideas?

It sounds like both AC's are on the same leg, and you have nothing putting a load on the other leg.  Try running your microwave & water heater.  You should see the other leg increase.

Randy,  wired correctly each AC should be running off opposite legs.

Are both legs showing about 120v?  Microwave is on an inverter circuit powered by leg 2

2 AC's running are going to draw more then 17 amps. Unless one has only fan running.

What has shown at other campgrounds 50 amp pedistals?

Interesting. Toaster oven and microwave both ran on leg 2, but ran only 1 ac during their operation. Leg 2 Up to 34 amps. Voltage on leg 1 dropped, but no amps shown. We're moving tomorrow and will check next stop.

This may be totally unrelated but I just replaced my shore power cord due to intermittent loss of the neutral leg. I saw some strange reading on the EMS and lost a couple of small electrical items before FOT figured it out. Just a heads up.

Finally got around to pulling wiring schematic (attached) .  I do see AC on different legs. Our coach may be wired incorrectly or EMS is incorrect.

So I shut off from a/c and turned on rear a/c and EMS is not reporting Amos on either leg so it would appear EMS was incorrectly wired?  It shows voltage on leg 1 and 2 but never shows amps on leg 1.

It also makes sense that leg 2 with both AC running never shows more than 16 Amps (1 ac).

Have you removed the main breaker panel cover to see which leg your breakers are on?

Also easy to move breakers around if you want to move something to a different leg.

We also moved microwave breaker from inverter panel to main panel.

On your voltage reading for L1 & L2, are they exactly the same or a little different ever time you look at it?

Sounds like the CT (current transformer) that is on Leg 1 of your Progressive EMS may have died. Progressive may have another name for what they use but it will be similar to the old style CT.  This is the "thing" that looks at electric flow and transfers it to a digital readout.

If you look at the wiring diagram in your earlier post you will see that the Front and Rear AC or on separate legs.  If they are both running then both legs should show load.  Are both of the volt meters on the OEM panel showing voltage?

    • You know that Voltage is good on both legs
    • You know the A/C's are wired to both legs (at least per standard design drawing)
    • You know that both A/C's run
    • But EMS fails to show any current on one leg
    [/list]

Has to be a partial EMS failure (Current Sensor or conversion IC Chip or circuit board transducer/multiplexer circuit to readout)
Don't see the need for troubleshooting coach wiring
      • has the leg ever shown current since you owned the coach and now it has suddenly failed?
      • if yes, was there any sort of electrical event, after which the EMS current failed to report normally?

I've always found Progressive Ind. to be anxious to please in helping one troubleshoot or confirm diagnosis, over the phone - but that was years ago since my last need to talk with them.  Have you tried calling them?  800-307-6702, press 2, Central Time
