AquaHot Electric Issue

1998 U-320 36'

AquaHot Unit = 431/12

The electric side of our AquaHot unit stopped working recently.  In troubleshooting it I found that the right terminal screw of the High Limit thermostat is glowing red hot.  This is the top/first thermostat of the two electric thermostats.

The wire feeding this side of this thermostat is the 120 volt black feed wire from the 120 volt Romex cable that enters into the AH unit.

The voltage should be passing through the High Limit thermostat from right to left, then going from the left terminal of the High Limit directly to the left terminal of the Control thermostat, and finally exiting the right side of the Control thermostat and connecting directly to the heating element.

What would cause the input side of the High Limit thermostat's terminal to glow red?

Our diesel side is working fine, but I don't want to use it.  We are in Durango, CO under extreme drought conditions.  We have been evacuated from the house due to wildfire operations.  Heat from the diesel exhaust blowing onto overly dry ground does not sound like a wise idea in the current conditions.

Think the culprit has been found.

The input metal tab on the electric high limit thermostat is loose, and it appears the plastic thermostat casing around it is starting to deteriorate.

There is continuity between the input and out put tabs, so it passes that test, but it appears that the part is failing.

Chris, hopefully Rudy will chime in, he helped me with our Aqua hot system back in early spring. he has part numbers and a wealth of information.

Use your diesel side A-H.  The exhaust gas temperature is far below flammability point.  If you are concerned, make sure your exhaust elbow is pointing to the rear not straight down.
