Roof repair

I removed the the black no skid tape from the roof awhile back. The gel coat has some checking going on. So short of paying Extream a coach buck to redo it. What is the best way to repair it, re gel coat, epoxy deck paint, a new white no skid tape? We are Fulltime and boondock, so limited access to resources.

If the checking/cracks are just in the gel coat/no water has migrated into the laminate, I would consider a two part/epoxy marine paint such as Awlgrip

If you are still planning on going to Penasco, save it for there. They do it. Hundred bucks.

Bruce,

Brett's suggestion is a good one.  They also make a penetrating epoxy for gel cracking.  Get it at a marine store.

What does Extreme use?,surely it's something that you could find out and just use that, the so called coach buck is for them to
put it on or tell you it's some product only they can get.

As a stop gap measure just use some  rubber roof paint and you will not neèd to do anything else to it.

A buddy used Bus Kote (Insulating roof paint for buses, recreational vehicles) and had good luck in sealing and cleaning up condensation drain marks from the roof...

What are the differences between FT and Xtreme? I had Xtreme inspect the roof when at Bern'd and they said I had a problem. Made appointment with FT and they said there was nothing wrong with the roof. So who to believe is the question,

I guess it would depend upon who at FT made that comment.  X-treme is all about paint & fiberglass, so they do know their stuff.  If it was someone at FT's body shop, then I'd ask for clarification from X-treme as to what they're seeing.

I think this is something you could even have had different people looking from either place and having different opinions.This is a
low skill level repair in my opinion,remember these places are there to make money on their service not to help the Foretravel
owner.I would find out specifically what the "problem" is and fix it myself.If they say the whole roof is looking bad that may be
a different story but you could still recoat yourself.

Again, if this is just a gel coat issue, not laminate issue, just paint it with a quality epoxy-based paint.

When getting ready to consign my 2003 at FOT, the PDI , whoever that was, said it needed a new roof (15 coach bucks). I asked Corey Rucker to check on it. He had the body shop examine it, determined it could be fixed for half that.
No RV! Have hung up the keys.
