headlamp switch part III

my original headlight switch dash light dimmer was hit and miss so I unfortunately deceided to replace it.  20 hours of fooling with the junk $19 Car Quest replacement switches both of which failed in a matter of weeks, I special ordered a $38 ac delco switch on august 10, after being back ordered twice, I received it yesterday.  shaft inserted and locked on the first attempt.  Lessons learned if your planning a trip in the near future or on the road don't fool with the oem switch just to fix the dash lights!

I found that if the light switch is wired to only activate the rely which then transfers the main power to the lights, that switch should last a very long time.

You are correct on the relay, the CQ ones failed not from amps thru the contacts but the internal slide and latch mechanism. Second CQ unit got locked up in the ON position after a dozen cycles and would not budge, took me an hour to get it to release the shaft so I could remove it. Hindsight 20-20 I would have lived with the bright dash lights. Does anybody know if red bulbs are available, of just paint them with red fingernail polish?
