Antifreeze level low

I noticed before and again and now yesterday, the level of antifreeze in the plastic overflow reservoir was below the hot and then the cold marks when ran and sfter cooled

A couple of friends have noted the same.  No leaks evident

Got to wondering....am I seeing evaporation?  The plastic reservoir I suppose gets hot fluid and is not pressurized?  Is that the reason I need to add a bit after a quite long trip, evaporation?

Ours gradually gets lower also. No idea why. After a trip, it may be down an inch or two.

Very unlikely it is evaporation.

When was the last time the cooling system was opened?  It does take a while to get all the air out after servicing.

Plastic reservoir is not pressurized.  It is merely an overflow container.  The pressure cap is on the metal canister.

How much are you loosing-- comparing cold with cold readings?

Before I changed the radiator we were loosing about that much and PO said that was how it was when he had it.  When I pulled the radiator there was a wet spot on one end at top of radiator, was not leaking enough to drip off radiator but was leaking and evaporating off outside of radiator.. We'll see how it is with new radiator!

Brett, the plastic I thought not pressurized?  About one inch less after 1000 + miles I think

Come to think about it, our fitting out of the pressure cap to the plastic tank had a poor solder joint and I put a piece of backerboard above it and put a torch to it. Don't think it's been down since then.

Chris, interesting thought.  Two my friends having similar loss.  Been going on several years I think one said.

The idea was brought up, and might address mine?, had radiator cap lose fluid and when got cleaned up and new fluid Sanson said would take good while for all the air to get out....but two years!? 

Chris, more I think, you may have the answer.  Those are bolted and not welded, I had forgotten, this reminded me. Hmmm
