8.3 Coolant Capacity

I'm changing the coolant in my 8.3. The Foretravel book indicates a 15 gallon coolant capacity. I drained the radiator and overflow completely. Both were full before draining and the system does not leak. I got almost exactly 10 gallons. If the capacity really is 15 that means that five gallons of residual remain. This is an important figure as I want to make sure I end up with the 50/50 ratio. Anyone happen to know what the actual total coolant capacity is? Thanks.

Lots of residual water in hoses to/from water heater and dash heater core plus heater core.

You could disconnect and blow out those circuits with air OR flush with fresh water, then last flush with distilled water and fill with 50% capacity with coolant concentrate and just top off with distilled water.

I always to the latter.

Don't forget the block drain, about 2 gallons.
