Roof Air Conditioner Data Cables

I was cleaning up my roof A/Cs when I found a potential problem in both units. When I went to unplug the data cable from the in line connector the plastic cable end just disintegrated in my hand. All four were like that. Easy fix with new ends and connectors. Something to check out on these old babies.

John,
Not JOR here, but our local home improvement store has ends in a 10 pack for a couple of $. The connectors are found in double packs along side of the ends.

The connectors are easily obtainable, just make sure that the wiring inside is correct by running a continuity check on the new and old.  The link is for a straight one, but you may need a reverse...........I replaced all of mine last year as well as crimping on all new plugs, but I can't remember if they are straight or reverse.

John,

You will need to get a crimper tool also. They are available off the net for a few bucks.

.................and some dielectric grease for assembly.  I also used a mini zip-tie on each connector,  that when wrapped around it from end to end and under the release clips on the plugs will keep the plug from accidentally coming out of the coupler.  A little trick I learned from Red Tractor.

at up to 90% off,may be worth a look, stocked up for life on some items.

As mentioned you can get the connectors and crimping tool at Home Depot, Ace or wherever. The data cables on mine (97) were six pin on one side of the connector and four pin on the other. I used the same pin number ends. Just use your new tool to snip the cable if necessary, strip the outer insulation and crimp your nice shiny new end in place. You just need to keep the little wires configured the same on both sides of the connector. They are ordered the same so just choose black facing forward or whatever before you shove it into your new end and make sure that relationship is maintained when you crimp each side.

I also replaced the filter material with some stuff made for that purpose. Got it at Ace.
