Step Cover Goes Crazy

Yesterday was the last day of our trip from Arizona to Cape Cod.  It was after lunch that our step cover(normally open) started moving out and in at random.  Of course, it chose to stay extended when we wanted to get out, forcing some gymnastics to exit the coach.  It called in the tech support.  Tricia passed the message to Braxton, who call back after returning from lunch.  He thought the pressure regulator that controls the step cover was failing and recommended calling FT Parts to get a replacement since I would be unlikely to find one locally.
Once I arrived at our destination, I raised the coach, placed my safety stands and crawled under the front passenger corner.  i had a hard time finding the pressure regulator, but finally found it lying on to of my Kwikee step box.  Whaat?  Why is it lying there, not tied up or supported in any way.  And guess what?  One of the wires to the regulator had broken at a solderless connector.  Once I finxed the wire, the problem was solved.  Can anyone tell me where the step cover pressure regulator is supposed to be mounted?

The OEM air regulator has no wires, are you sure that you sure you are not referring to the Norgren shuttle valve? Here is a pic to what they look like and where they were mounted. One is for the cover and the other for the flip down step. They are both the same. Front step will not come down
The Norgren valve was mounted to the back side of the step well wall.  With the step conversion it still should be mounted to the box with 2 #6 machine screws.

Ok, I stand corrected on the Norgren valve.  Now my step cover works properly but the steps retract whenever the door closes regardless of the position of the ignition key.  What do I do now?

likely there was a switch mounted that controls whether they stay out with jey off  or travel in and out when the door opens and closes with key off (they always are in the close with door mode with key on

On my coach that switch was mounted to the right of the entry door with the three rocker switches that control the large overhead neon light and two outside light switches. Do you have a switch that seems to do "nothing" on the coach in that vicinity? If so, that is likely your switch (if I understand your question correctly

Tim, I'm thinking Brett was talking about his step well cover and not the exterior step(s).

No, I started with the step well cover, but then the exterior steps would not stay out when I turned the ignition switch off.  They always have.

No, I only have a step cover switch in that position.
