U295 towing a vehicle

I'm sure that there are a lot of you towing a vehicle with the 350HP Cummins.  I was just curious about the performance.

We plan on towing a Jeep Wrangler behind a 2001 U295 36' with the 350.  Living in Colorado, we have many mountain passes to deal with.

Everyone's thoughts ?

Thank you in advance.

A 2 door Wrangler should be pretty easy.  A four door Wrangler weighs more.  You won't be the fastest guy up the longer or steeper grades but you will get there.  Gear choice and RPMs to manage temps, speed is an end result.

I think you will be fine. Don't expect to be the fastest vehicle climbing the hills. If you exercise wisdom you should have ni problems.

We have a 40' 295 Full timing,  pulling a Wrangler unlimited all over coast to coast and boarder to boarder no problem. We get there about the same time as the folks with the big motors. 😎👍🍺. Your 350 will do just fine just down shift and let it work around 1900-2000 rpm when pulling the long hills life is good.

I agree, no problem.  We have the same engine and took our coach from Tucson to Payson, AZ last week. The last 70 miles was an exercise in mountain driving (see profile).  We were towing a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  On some of the steeper grades I was in 3rd gear (about 35mph) going both up and down.  This kept the engine temp close to 180 and the retarder below 250.  I would have hated to drive that route without Silverleaf since I would have been blind to the gear I was in and to the retarder temp.  We had an '03 U295 a few years back with a 400hp engine and it definately had more power, but we also towed a smaller CRV.  All in all the ISC350 performed very well.

I pull a trailer with a Dart,a quad, tools 🧰 and fuel ⛽️ to the strip in Morrison no problem or anywhere else. With an old Cat and 114,000 mls on the clock so you should be go to go with 350 hp.

What does the 295 actually weigh?  My 88 only weighs about 23k loaded plus trailer. Pulls 7k no problem . with 250HP but some good tq #s .
