Foretravel at Oshkosh Airventure, Starts July 22

Anyone camping at Oshkosh, Wisconsin for EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Airventure?

This is the largest celebration of air and space in the world. I plan on seeing Apollo astronauts there.

My wife, two 15 year old teens and I will travel from the Philly area starting around July 15 to arrive at Oshkosh on July 18 in our 1997 U270 and will camp at Camp Scholler. No reservations required. The main event is from July 22-27.

If there are any Foretravelers planning to come, let me know if you want to meet up.

Have fun Tim.  We have been there 14 times since 1978.  It is always fun to arrive early and sit on the flight line with your air band radio and watch the planes come in.  Best part of the show.  And ultralights at the south end of the airport after the afternoon airshow.

No reservations to camp at the airport, Camp Scholler.  Portapotties, hot showers, grocery stores and lots of food venues right there.  Busses help move folks around.  One of the biggest dump stations I have ever seen, 12 stations as I recall.  Great cell service.  Arrive early for better sites.  Be prepared for a bunch of walking.  And it is not inexpensive.

I never get tired of it. Always something new.

Back around 1966 I worked for a company across the road from Rockford Airport. I used to go out on a break and lay on the lawn and watch the aerobatics right above my end of the airport.
Forward ahead about four years and the aerobatics were done at the Fond du Lac airport and the main show up at Oshkosh. I used to take my lawn chair and go sit on my front lawn and watch the aerobatics at FDL.
Got my share of the aerobatics but still went to Oshkosh about five years ago and watched guess what? The aerobatics!!
Had my share and found Oshkosh a nuthouse. Get your CG reservation in a year or even two years early. Most times nothing is available within 50 miles, and this includes motels and hotels!!

No reservations are required for boondocking sites at Camp Scholler.

We arrive a couple of days in advance to get a choice of spots. We make no reservations so we can be flexible with the long trip.

Yes, Oshkosh is a nut house in a good way because the people are smart, adventurous and courteous. There are :

- 600 classes
- World-class airshows
- Apollo 11 Astronauts this year

There at least three other Foretravels at Camp Scholler. I have met two of them, one in a 1992 Grand Villa and One in U285.

Don't float away there at "Sloshkosh".  Should dry up during the week. Wish I could be there in my other RV but alas gotta work this summer...but will follow on Facebook and EAA webcams.  Have fun.
