1996 sealand 511 replacement

Hi all,
Owned this coach for 2 years now. I replaced both seal gaskets last August, due to water not staying in bowl. Discovered water leak when I flush in back where bowl meets base.
I'd like to replace with new 511 but I read it's a bit taller. My old one is 13 1/4" high.
Are my choices keep old bowl and install new base, as Barry did.
Or get higher new toilet, and cut down linen cabinet door? Just looking for ideas. Thanks

If it's leaking at the base replace the gasket. We had the same one you had and replaced it with a new Dometec but we don't have a cabinet behind ours, can you do without the door?We got the Dometec from PPL for not much more then the parts would cost for
the old one,the old ones are only as good as the weakest part you don't change and the new one does flush much better.

Tom, does your toilet have 2 overflow holes in the back of bowl? If so your new gasket/ bowl seal has to have a hole in it, otherwise it will leak. Give Dometic a call they have kit to plug off the holes.

If you can take the gasket to Lowes or a plumbing store they may have it,when we changed ours we had to get the adaptor plate
to go from 4 bolt to 2.

Thanks for quick replies guys. Barry, old sealand bowl has 2 plug holes. Only one plug is there.
When I replaced both gaskets last August, it had the hole.
John44, thanks also for reply. I'm thinking going with new dometic 511 hs model,4 bolt with sprayer. White # 302751101.
Either order ppl or rv parts country, about  $300.
Will keep you in the loop.

We had a similar issue with our 511 and after the second gasket replacement we said enough.
So, thought we'd try something new. Went with the 320 ( shorty version ). It's about 1" taller..

That's the bad news, the 1" taller.  The good part was it flushed better, kind of a swirling thing.  And the seal is replaced from the top verses pulling things apart to replace a gasket. And also has a kind of cassette type of water valve ( also easier to replace).      Best part is, DW is happy.

I just ordered the parts on Amazon to fix my mine. Did alot or reading on this project to order parts and decided to stay with the original equipment. Last year put a small drip tray on the floor under the valve, and had to empty it all the time.  John, I think you did the right thing! I should have called you,....

Tom, I am not sure the back of new toilet is taller. We found the seat was a bit taller, maybe in front.

FYI, the water inlet on the back side has a different part and the old and new are not interchangeable.

We don't have a cabinet above our toilet, so I cannot visual your setup, but buying a new whole toilet may fit your coach.

Tightening center band may stop your leak. We also put some sealer around the edge of the rubber seals that could eliminate your leak.

I wonder if the toilet overflow holes are contributing to your leak. There are plugs available to seal the bowl overflow holes.

I assume you also replaced the plastic half rotating part with your new seals, to help assure a good seal when closed. Also all cleaning must not damage rubber seals.

Barry, thanks again for reply.
According to dometic, the new 511 hs low profile is 14 1\2 inches tall. Old one is 13 1/4" tall.
I've tightened the  old plastic collar with worm clamp.
I've ordered from ppl Houston.
I talked with a TX and Orange county distributors, both said ups is known to deliver cracked bowls and plastic bases. Can hardly wait .Lol
Will keep you all in the loop. Thanks

Quick finish gang,.after 6 days using rv park bathhouse, the dometic 511 hs is in.
1. Had to trim plastic ears off female 1/2" pex swivel water hook up. It rubbed dometic water valve hose.
2.installed sharkbite 1/2" crimp ball valve.
3. Tied into toilet line thru bottom floor drawer under fridge.
4. Left the plastic base cover off.
Had to trim closet door about 1inch to clear new higher toilet lip.

Tom,

Are you or family members 'aware' of the higher height of your new Sealand?  I am sure the new toilet is working great, but just wondered about it.

Thanks,
Barry & Cindy

Barry.
Yes the higher height was different. But after a month this solo fulltimer is happy.
