Cummins ISM 450

good evening everyone,
I would like to know if a Cummins ISM 450,  ESN 35059943 (ISM CM570) with a build date of 23 May 2002 has a mechanical or electrical lift pump (i'm not sure if those are the two different types).
is this a good engine or has it been problematic?

also I have read about problems with the fuel filters or the design of the fuel system , these posts are from 6-8 years ago.

any and all comments are appreciated
thanks

I'm guessing it has a electric fuel transfer pump, being a 2002 model engine with electronic controls.

But no need to guess.  Since you know the ESN, you can register at QuickServe Online (it's FREE) and find out the exact info that pertains to that specific engine.  You see the same thing there that a high paid Cummins tech would see on their shop computer.  Try it - you'll like it:

The ISM 11 450HP is a solid performer.  Plenty of what is needed to do the mountains.  I changed the original filter set to the updated version of that with the see through pre screen filter.  Not sure about the fuel pump but I don't think is is something to worry about.  In 100K miles we are averaging just under 8 mpg.

LT403,
ISM-11 has a engine driven fuel pump to a common rail to electrical injectors control by a computer. Another good thing is the RedTop Cummins doesn't have the EGR system. My engine has 100k on it with no known issue, I've added 10k with mostly mountain driven here in Arizona towing my full size truck or off-road vehicle. The only mod I have done is updated the primary fuel filter. The engine computer has noted it has averaged 7.6 MPG over its 100k life.

My engine computer showed the same 7.6 mpg at 100k also.

I ran the same for 10k miles at 62-65 mph.

Long list of mods and repairs I now average 8.2 at 69-70 plus full throttle whenever I feel like it.

At 62-65 now in "mode" and no heavy winds and grades I get 10mpg plus.

36,000 combined.  Hills out of la.

Engine is way detuned compared to other 11 liter diesel I have driven and/or sold.

I understand it was detuned buy Cummins to make up being over tuned on other engines before these.

Made a deal with the EPA.

If this was turned up if would get 1 to 1 1/2 mpg more in my experience.

Pulls 6% grades at low 50's.  Had other coaches pull the same grades at 65 towing.  11 liter cat.

N14 444/1850 got 12mpg driven fast.

That engine has a solid history. We have a 1995 400 HP M11 with over 170 k miles with no significant issues. It still burns zero oil and appears as if it will last nearly forever!
