Kitchen faucet

Yesterday Jo Ann picked out the new faucet for the kitchen. This morning she pulled everything out from under the kitchen sink, and I'm ready to remove the old faucet. How do I get to it? There is a fixed shelf under there, and I can't figure out how to get it out. Looks like I have to remove all of the drain pipe first. Is that right?

The shelf under our kitchen sink has a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet stuff laying loosely on it.  If I pick that up, there are a few screws that can be removed, then the shelf comes out.

On ours, not necessary to remove drain pipe.  Shelf has a cutout that goes around it.  Working room under and behind sink is very tight.  I totally destroyed the old faucet getting it out, cuz the connections were all rusted and would not break free until I nuked them.  But I prevailed...

Looks like I have to remove some screws on the panel to the left in order to get to the screws that hold that side of the shelf down. The drain pipe goes through the middle of the shelf, so it will have to come out, or at least the trap underneath. Yes, the hold for the hoses will have to be enlarged, too. Oh yes, the vent pipe also goes through the shelf.

After lunch I'll go get two shut-off valves and help my son-in-law with a small project, and then go back at it.

There's a tool known as a sink wrench designed to loosen the nut/washers surrounding the water inlets.
Inexpensive and available at any home center in the plumbing department.

I have one of those wrenches, but it would not budge the nuts on our original faucet.  The copper tubes that are part of the faucet just twisted.  I ended up cutting the nuts off with a Dremel tool.

Having just removed and replaced our kitchen faucet a few weeks ago, it is tight.  I would remove the drain pipe and pull out the slide shelf at the bottom and lay some soft blanket down to lay on your back to reach up and remove the old faucet.  It isn't easy, but doable.  I also installed 2 quarter turn ball cock valves to hook to pex and it makes for a nice clean hook up.  I also added a shark bite tee and then a another quarter turn ball cock valve with a 1/4 inch connection to hook up water line to ice maker. 
I have done hundreds of plumbing jobs and working on these coach's with no room is a challenge in itself!

We purchased a couple of kitchen faucets back three or four years. The one for the coach was a lot harder than the house to install and Joe above says it right. Plumbing shops will have the tool to tighten it as big channel locks don't make it.

This last year, the button on the faucet started to wear through so I looked online and found a restaurant type clone and ordered it off ebay. Fit, build quality is very good and unlike a couple of the reviews, it went into place, water lines connected all without a problem. It stared to leak a little but there is an internal Allen fitting that only took a minute to tighten and it's better than ever. We don't use the arm that sticks out but just rotate it out of the way so the water dispenser just hangs. Looks great so not a problem. The pressure is controlled by the valve near the base so when you squeeze the handle, you have lots of pressure for some thing or just a little pressure for others. The plumbing store had these for $400 and when I looked at the box, sure enough, made in China. The chrome finish is good and we like it better than the brushed finish.

Finally got the faucet in, and a picture added to the album in the Classifieds. The new faucet is a Delta 85214, which has a pull-down head, so that it is also a sprayer. You can have the water come out as a normal stream, as a spray, or as an egg-shaped spray. Looks cool, but so far I haven't figured out what it would be useful for. After washing dishes several times with this, I really like it. It would have been nice if the handle could have been on the left, but that's picking at nits.

The old filtered water faucet is still in place, but the line isn't connected to anything. I had to remove the whole filter assembly in order to get the shelf out, and since we never had any filtered water in the six years we've owned this coach, I decided that I wasn't going to put it back. The filter assembly is in a drawer, and will go with the coach, so that the next owner can put it back if they want. A Brita pitcher and a lifetime supply of filters is a LOT cheaper.

I also replaced mine with one from China, $27-00 AUD, Delivered,
I took the sink out to replace mine,
The filter got the Kybosh too, Replacement filters were an arm and a leg,
We also have pure tap water so a filter is not necessary,
I did drain the tanks completely when I first got it, So I know they are clean inside,
I drink the water from the tap and I dont get sick from it,

1. We are wintering in Texas
2. Moen faucet starts leaking
  a. only 28 years old but still looks good.
3. DW calls Moen about parts--for 28 year old faucet!
4. Moen sends complete repair kit including Moen emblem for top of faucet--for FREE!!
5. Great Lifetime Warranty huh?
