Wifi reception

What's the latest and greatest device to use to get better reception?Was at the ladies driving school 3 years ago and at one of
the hubby classes the instructor showed us the latest that they were using,guess I could call and ask Foretravel.

X2 on Randy's recommendation (above).  We leave it plugged into our AT&T hotspot all the time.  Works great at our house, and in the coach while traveling.  Got ours from Amazon Prime, of course, through the ForeForum "shopping link".

Best info I have found on the subject, by far.  WRT cell antennas/boosters they actually get and test all the equipment themselves, and the final analyses include actual test data.

I have a pepwave that I need to connect.. so the broad question is .... are you supplying the internet and want better connection or are you connection to a host and wanting to boost the signal?

All of this technology is changing rapidly and continuously. Cell signals are getting better and much more widespread. Don't invest too much in stuff that will be obsolete in just a couple of years.  I have a box full of it if you want to try it.

I just purchased the Netgear Nighthawk M1 unlocked with the external Mimo antenna and then subscribed to a monthly ATT Enterprise unlimited data plan with no throttling (grandfathered) from eBay at $49 per month.

It works great and runs my smart TV, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire stick without any issues. So far so good.

Easy and effective to make a Pringles can into a "Cantenna." See images for more info: cantenna pringles - Google Search

You then need one of these to let you plug in the Cantenna or larger WiFi antenna into the USB port. Works for all platforms with included drivers. Wireless 1200Mbps 2.4G/5G Dual Band USB WiFi Adapter W/ Antenna for Desktop...

So, you download the software, plug this into your Mac (PC) run a cable to the Cantenna and away you go. I also have a large parabolic antenna that works much better but is also much larger. I have also strapped my MiFi to it for better reception. These are directional so you need software to watch for signal strength. Don't stand in front as the radiation is higher than the FCC allows.

There can be a lot of toe stubbing along the way so I recommend watching this video and getting ahold of the suppliers listed on the video. It will save you a lot of frustration.

I'm taking a hard look at the new Togo Roadlink C2.  I agree with Roger though, 5G when it's available and wide spread will be a gamechanger.

If you want to hook up to any of the free wifi signals out there, (Walmart, McDonalds, Burger King, etc. etc. etc.) I recommend this baby. Just plug it in and see what open networks are out there. You can move it to the window closest to the source.
I have a Verizon MiFi device I can  use when I need to go online and there are no free services available.

Looks pretty clean. What laptop/OS are you using? How much difference in signal strength is there? Does the supplied disk have drivers for Android, Windows and Mac? I read what it says but sometimes they don't get everything correct.

Hi Pierce. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad. Have used the same antenna with both windoz 7 and windoz 10 and I don't know if it will work on any other OS's. It's plug and play in windoz -- no installation disk needed -- and the signal strength is far better than with the built in wifi adapter. Note that when you are using it you need open your Network and Internet settings, select change adapter options and disable the built in wifi card. You may have to enable the external USB antenna booster if it is not enabled.
*** I just read the promo and it says "Supported Os: Windows 2000/ Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/ Windows 8 / Mac OS/ Linux." I know for a fact it works with windoz 10 as well.
