Weird place for an oil leak...

Left Pasadena yesterday morning headed for New Mexico.. we made a leg stretch walk around after a few hours and I noticed oil dripping at the motor, I had had a drip a month ago and o tightened the oil filter and it seemed to stop. It didn't look THAT bad so we continued on. The next walk around things looked the same but the Jeep had a lot of oil film on it.. thinking that a little blowing oil drop can go a long way we continued on. When we got to our stop for the nite the drips were pretty bad but crawling under the coach I couldn't tell where it was coming from. Checked the dip stick, nothing. I carry 2 gallons of delo so I added 1, nothing on the stick. Added the 2nd, nothing on the stick.. hummm this leak must of been worse than I thought. Went to Wally world this morning in Dumas Texas for more delo added 2 more gals and went looking for a mechanic... found a mobile guy to come to me. He found the oil dip stick tube cracked more then half way around at the nut that holds it on to the oil pan. He made me a new tube and I went on my way to angel fire NM.  Apparently while going down the hiway with the engine pressure higher the leak was worse...  dodged a bullet!!!

Yes, dodged a bullet. With the engine warm, the oil is pretty thin and with a small amount of crankcase pressure, it was enough to make it's way out of the crankcase. Think you also have piston oil squirters so there is quite a bit of oil from them and also return oil from the valve gear and the turbo.
