Want to Replace Rear Camera

On our 99 U270 we still have the original rear camera. It looks down at out tow hitch and we can see the front of our towd but cannot see what's happening when pulling in after passing another vehicle. Talk about driving blind!
Looking through the forum I see that 15 years ago Javalina had a fish eye upgraded camera that was supposedly very good with a view of the complete towd and the vehicle that it was passing.
Is there a modern fish eye/ wide angle camera that is good at night that anyone is using that would be similar to or better than that old Javaling unit.

Call or email Tim at RV Cams. He knows cameras, and he knows the best way to hook up any camera he sells to your coach system.

The rear camera may be a two position camera like ours was. There was a switch next to the monitor to select down or back.

We used Tadi Bros for the rear camera pair quality we wanted, a side camera, higher res monitor, service and price. Check them out. Some have had OK luck with wireless. Some not. We went with wired..

No switch, for a second camera, might take a look and see if there is any angle adjustment possible to see further back

Thanks, ordering it, $25 and a much better field of view,
We are leaving today for upstate NY without the towd, will get it installed next week.

I replaced the original camera which was black/white without sound or night vision with a colour, sound, infrared (night vision) type. I had to fish two coax cables from rear to front but this can be done using the aluminum extruded ceiling/wall channel. I also reinstalled the original B/W camera looking almost straight down for backing up to towd or backing into a camp spot. A switch on the replaced LED colour display allows selecting which camera to view.

got the riot act about how he is barely making a living.

There is no need to buy a special coax cable. The coax cable used in houses for TV available in used goods stores is all that I used. The reason for the coax is to shield the centre solid wire to stop hum in sound and noise in the video. i was told that I must buy a very expensive cable with the end connector that matched the connectors on the camera, however, I cut the end off, bared wires, and soldered - works perfect and cost a few dollars (not hundreds).

We used Tadi Bros. A wired camera. Wireless didn't work for us. You are welcome to stop by and see our setup.

I bought a camera system from MOT and had them install it..It was pricey but I have doubts that there is a camera that offers a better view from rear to both sides.. Just another option that may or may not interest you. If interested I will give more details. I drove rigs for 48 years with large blind areas but no more.

Probably not better but the NATIKA has a 170 degree super wide viewing angle lens.

I didn't care for the packaged back up camera solutions at the time, so I rolled my own so to speak...
Project potpourri...
Not for everyone (read: lot of work!), but It has worked well. I initially used the original cable which I re terminated, but that was giving me some problems. I had run conduit from the camera all the way up front to the dash, but the high res mini coaxial that I pulled through lost its connector in the pulling process (I had put quite a few wires in the pull included a couple pairs of twisted 18 gauge wire, two cat 5 cables, and the mini coax). I finally got around to adding another connector (BNC) for which I had to buy a special tool, and that solved the problems permanently. I tried numerous times to get a cable snake through the aluminum channel but it always got hung up about two thirds of the way through, so I ran the conduit while I had the holding tanks out when I did my basement rebuild.
The camera also has a three to one power optical zoom, but I haven't gotten around to installing a control system as yet, so I just leave it on wide shot.

That's amazing, there are so many other small things that I am working on, the time and crazy engineer brain needed for that set up is way above my pay grade.

New TadiBros camera arrived today, opened the box and gave it a quick look. Got work working on removing the air intake grill and removing the old camera.
Cleaned everything and got ready to install the camera: the lens glass is cracked. Some projects Do not run smoothly, now have to call Tadi and get it 2nd Day Air, need it since the other one is removed.

I got my camera from Tim at rv cams. It's a color camera with excellent night vision. Reused existing wiring a very simple hookup. Also am using original monitor which is black and white. Picture is sharp and clear. When the monitor quits I'll go with color but for now it's just fine.
