Fresh Water Tank

I am hooked up to fresh water, with an insulated electric warmer tape to keep it from freezing in winter. Is there some way to stop the water to go into the fresh water tank and just be available at my kitchen sink, and bath fixtures? Last winter the water froze and expanded up and out the relief place at the top of the water tank and created an enormous icicle right in front of the rear tire.

Susan,

You should turn off the fill valve for your fresh water tank.  if it is cold enough to freeze water in the fresh tank then it would be prudent to get a couple of 200 watt electric heaters for your wet bay to prevent any damage.

Chimayo is one of Susan and my favorite places in NM.  We are there often, just last April.

If you only want water for sink and toilet, keep your tank fill valve shut and open the tank drain valve.  If your piping arrangement is like our 91 GV, these valves are in the floor just behind the water tank cover (dog house).  You may also want to keep the pump suction valve from the tank shut and for sure, keep your pump turned off.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Fritz and Roger,

Thank you for responding. I just knew there had to be some way to do it. It's dark now but in morning I will look for it, and photograph the area if I can recognize it.
Thank you so much!

ps Chimayo is a very sweet place! Hope you connect next time you are through here. :)

I only see one way that the water goes in. Where is the tank fill valve?

The same place but you have to open the fill valve. At least that is the way most are plumbed.

The fresh water tank fill valve is under your bathroom sink. Open that valve to fill the tank, leave it closed to just use park water.

Susan, to be more specific the valve is under bathroom sink and is usually hidden in floor carpet but handle for on off is visible.

Thank you, John!

I closed off the park water handle so no water coming in. Then, I emptied the fresh water tank. Now, I am going to leave the handle under the bathroom sink closed. (Clockwise turn) And turn on the park water.

And voila! no water coming into the tank. I must have somehow left it open.

Thank you so much. It is in the high 80's but I am working on getting ready for another winter up here!
