Lighted Switch Labels '91 GV

Hi folks,

What is the method that Foretravel used to illuminate the labels under the switches on the dash on a '91 Grand Villa?  I see two fine wires, white and black feeding to the panel with the monitor and generator switches.  They no longer light up with the dash lights but they are getting power.  I am not sure they worked when I purchased the coach.  They are also causing a slight whine through the audio system, so I unplugged the lead.  I would suspect that this isn't something I can repair, but I am curious about how exactly it works.
