Replacement for bedroom vanity lights.

Need something to replace these lights in the bedroom. Anyone do this and what did you use?
They are 12 volt lights and they are mounted kind of low so it might be a challenge. I may just paint them and be done with it, after adding some led globe lights, but there has to be something better....

You can use any 120 volt light fixture mounted without a junction box, attach the base plate directly to the wall, takes a bit of fiddling. Amazon has standard base LED bulbs that are 12 volt.
We have just changed out lights in the bedroom and living room. Added push buttons to turn then on/off.

I will get a picture tomorrow afternoon. Have just about the whole coach converted to brushed nickel satin finish, hinges, knobs, faucets, shower fittings, enclosure on order (Basco has a standard hight one that fits), pocket door locks, towel rails, all the lights, was going to use that same light you chose in the bathroom and my DW got the Gustafson one with the single shade, yes it's too big by 3/4", cut the fixture and the shade down - beautiful.

Bob,

I went with home built LED light fixtures using some wood I had left over from my TV change-out.  The fixtures are much less intrusive than larger household fixtures, which is particularly important in the bedroom.

Richard, that is exactly what I was looking for that I didn't know I wanted!
Really looks great there and will last forever.
I just took down the area around the rear tv to put in a small flat screen, so have some material to work with now.
Did you put them on a dimmer? Would be easy to do.

David, like the look you did with those lights as well. That was what I was going to get. In fact its sitting in my amazon wish list right now. But Like Richards look better.

Would love more details about how you built these. What LED"s and what did you use for the cover over them?

Sorry but I will have to bone up on how to reference an old post.  I posted a write-up with pictures about 7 years ago when I made the bathroom and bedroom vanity lights.  I made them on the road using a coping saw and chisel.  The LED's are two rows of hard strips with the LED's staggered.  The plastic lenses are cut from one of the covers from a fluorescent light in the storage bay.  Very simple and almost no cost.

Again, I will try to re-post the 7 year post.

This is what I ordered...

I have the Walnut base of the old tv area. Figured I could get a 15" light X2 out of it. Looking for the frosted acrylic now. Was at lowes yesterday and while its on the web site couldn't find it in the store. Not sure how much heat this LED's put out, but I might drill some holes in the sides for  ventilation.

We will see how it turns out. Not a important project right now, but its on my mind so... shouldn't take to long.
Wife has me doing some honey do's at home too... so have a lot on the plate right now.

Bob, not sure what design you are going with on the fixture but why not get a panel of the flourecent light lens and cut it to match. Those LEDs should not give any noticable heat off.

John that's probably what I wind up doing but I did see some sheets of the same stuff on the Lowe's website. Otherwise it'd have to get a whole fluorescent light panel cover and cut it out of that. Unfortunately they're not cheap.

Any 120 volt light can work as a 12 volt light for your RV using a 12 volt bulb.
12V Low Voltage 3W LED Light Bulbs (6 Pack) - for RV, Solar Panel Project...
Take a regular fixture, add a push button (available at all ACE hardware stores) if it does not already have a switch.
Mount the plate that would have attached to a junction box directly to the wall, add blocks of wood slightly thicker than the wall of the light to keep it separated from the wall or the metal will damage the surface.
This makes updating your lighting, inexpensive and easy.

got a sheet of plastic for florescent lights at home depot. Got the LED lights. Now I have to cut some of the old wood and make a light out of it. I will post a pic of it when done.

15 inch 4 Bulb 12v Vanity Light Optronics Model DC1304 Oiled Bronze Finish...

I offered him $15.00 each, he took it, and gave me a break on the shipping. Bought 2, loved them, then bought 2 more. Nice quality. I just put LED bulbs in them.

If you do the search on here "Vanity Lights" there are some others.

OK, project done. Took a bit longer than I thought it would. But pretty satisfied with the results if its a bit bright... What do you think?
Made from a piece of solid walnut from the bedroom TV shelf. I used a pony router to hollow out the hole for the LED strip. Used a 2 part varnish I had lying around for the first coat, then a polyurethane. The finish is not exactly what I wanted but its good enough. Wished I had used danish oil but that's ok. Still need to glue the acrylic down.
Much thanks to Richard for the idea!
