Problem with second entry step

Considering that we now have our coach back after 2.5 years between the deer smack and the ISX engine rehab we found a problem on the second step, which in our Nimbus is also a storage area which in the past is where we stored some basic tools.
It is soaking wet to the point that the few tools left in were beyond recovering. In fact one riser tile has come loose. Plus it was covered in yellow fuzzy mold.
I am puzzled as to where the moisture is coming from and how to go about fixing it. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Top picture is interior of the step. The bleach has knocked out the yellow fuzzy mold, but you can still see areas of rust. The step has been open since yesterday morning and it is still wet.
Middle picture shows the missing tile and how damp the wood remains.
Last picture is the wheel well area that the interior step side edge lays up against.
How should we fix this, though I suspect that when they worked on the front, the step area never got checked despite the fact that we told the a 500+ lb mulely buck hit the front. Any ideas John?

I have attached a pic taken the morning after the deer smack. The buck hit directly on the Genny section, but the damage to the fiberglass went to both sides, plus the Genny frame took the brunt of the shock. The was no blood or fur found on the undercarriage.

Have you been driving in the rain? Could have come up from something not sealed on the underside and the tires throwing up the water.

Turbojack,
It has been in Nac since the 19th of Dec.2019. It could have been moved during the rain they have been having. This appears to have been going on as it was dry when we left the coach with FOT in October of 2017. She has been sitting except for periodic runs around Nac's beltline road. When we did the break-in, it was 105 out. But we discovered the ruined tools. We dried the box completely in October. Until we took her back over, she was in her barn stall totally dry. We drove home on a dry road on the 14 the of Feb.
I am wondering if something got cracked after the deer smack. My roving RV tech has been leaning towards the front tire throwing water.

First pull the carpet out. Probably needs replacement but it will give you a look below it and see if there are any gaps that need sealing.
Next I would raise and block the coach and take a look under the step itself.
Might be as was said just water from below.

What he said plus, maybe the seal around your windshield was broken when you got your deer.

All I can add is that you need to follow the force from the impact looking for open seams. Much time spent lying underneath, studying the framework and imagining where the force from the impact might have gone.
