Replace monitor for rear camera and audit

Trying to Install a new monitor for the back up camera and audit.  Where do I find a device that has video out?  Hoping to connect that to the new monitor.

Drawing attached. Tried Following wire from back of Javelina. it goes To left corner and behind other wires so cannot see it.

Think you need the adaptor from the camera cable to the new monitor, when you remove the old monitor the cable from the rear
is in that area, nows the time to get a new camera also, can use the old cable.

Not sure this is what you are asking but just open up the center console and you'll find a board that pulls up. It has the Audit box attached with the video in and out.

Jor yes I think that is What I'm looking for. Thanks.

Connections on audit computer are BNC. Can I just put a RCA connector on the other end and connect to the new monitor?

Not sure what your monitor connections are but here's what mine look like. This is from the Audit box to a Voyager monitor.

There are BNC to RCA adapters.  No need to cut and splice.  If you can't find them, contact Tim:

Found a BNC to RCA at the local electronics store but cannot get anything on new monitor. Not certain everything is connected correctly but think so.

Connected to video out on audit computer.

Is there a way to confirm Audit computer is working?

I had nothing on the Javalina when I started but it has worked sporadically.  Worked a couple weeks ago.

Assumed It was the monitor but perhaps it is the computer

Not really addressing your question but if you find your Audit is failing, you can replace your factory tank gauge setup with SeeLevel or another brand and throw the Audit.

Follow Jor's suggestions.

Hook up to RCA jacks and see if you get a  picture.

Jan and Richard:  "Wow! You are fortunate to even HAVE a local electronics store. "
I do miss Radio Shack.  They always seemed to have lots of little parts crammed into a small shop.  Even more amazing, there was a very helpful lady who asked if I needed assistance.  Told her I need a BNC to RCA connector and she said check aisle 29 and if not their, aisle 6.  Found it on aisle 6.

Why is he is x guru mechanic buddy?  Need to buy him a beer and keep him around!  Wished I had those kind of electronics skills or a guru mechanic buddy like him.

TheBrays:  "I have a 22" tv that was small enough to bring into the coach (or, use the big TV you already have in the coach). ]I have one of them too, but cannot find the power supply.  :(  Perhaps the power supply will show up and I can try that approach. If I can find something around the house that has a RCA video out, I could also use it to confirm the new system is recognizing the incoming signal.

My plan is to replace the radio with a single DIN multi-media  like this  system and use it to show the Audit and rear camera.  If I can get it working, I will replace the rear camera too.  Thought is to connect  the monitor rocker switch to the "reversing wire" to trigger the device to show the display.

What powers the rear camera in the factory configuration?

After several hours of trying to get it to work, I decided to call it quits and do more research.  Put everything back the way it was originally and audit and rear camera both worked.  Still do not know if it is the audit computer or the Javalina display that is intermittent, but glad it it working for now.

I appreciate all of the feedback and especially the help finding the "secret" compartment holding the Audit system.

The best recommendation is to abandon the Audit and wire directly to the new monitor.  Javelina no longer supports the Audit. The OEM tank monitoring system never worked that well.  Much better technology available now.

I agree with Amos- abandon the audit system. Use the same wire that runs front to back, install new rear camera, monitor. Install  a new tank monitor system. I used Voyager camera and monitor from Tim at RV cams who also supplied diagram on how to connect to the existing front to back cable. I  installed new See Level tank monitor system. This has proven to be very reliable. Prior to this, I spent hours trying to get the Audit system to work properly and got nowhere with it

Thanks Amos and CDM.  I will explore those options.  What all is involved in replacing Audit with SeeLevel and what is the approximate cost?

On a positive note, I was able to connect video out from a DVD player to both inputs on the new monitor/stereo.  One input is designed for a backup camera and can be triggered by applying 12volts to the reversing wire.  The other input can be access by the Aux application.  Pretty certain it can also accept input from a USB camera, but do not have one of those to confirm that input.

If I can determine how the rear camera gets it power I will direct connect it to one of the system inputs and bypass Audit.

The cost depends on what kits you buy.  SeeLevel sells kits.  You buy the kits according to how "fancy" a installation you desire.  The most basic kit (#709) includes one basic monitor and sensor strips for 3 tanks.  But, because of the height of the tanks in our coaches, you will also need to purchase 3 extra sensor strips to provide complete top-to-bottom coverage of the 3 tanks.  That is why most of us buy two kits.  For a few bucks extra, buying two kits gives you all the sensor strips you need PLUS two monitors.  Members usually put one inside the coach and one outside.

Best prices are usually found at the RV Upgrade Store.  They carry all the different kits.  One kit now includes a monitor with Bluetooth.

Links below to the store, plus a couple threads showing some details of my "kinda typical" installation.  Because I elected to mount my "inside" monitor in my dash, I was able to repurpose the existing wires that run from the holding tanks to the old Audit computer.

Your coach may be different.

On our coach dash is a rocker switch labeled "MONITOR".  It originally turned on the B&W dash CRT screen for the Audit system, AND it turned on the power to the rear view camera.  In the photo below, you can see the switch to the right of my SeeLevel monitor and above my voltmeters.

I upgraded my rear view camera to a wireless camera system.  I still use the "MONITOR" rocker switch to turn on the power to the new camera.  I simply removed the old OEM camera and hooked the existing power wire to the new camera.  Works great!

Thanks.  I took another look at the wiring diagram and if I am reading it correctly, the dash "Monitor" switch sends power to the existing monitor, the Audit computer and the rear camera.

I "bench tested"the new radio by connecting the reversing camera to the video out of our DVD player and it works.  Also confirmed the video in port worked via the Aux application by doing the same.  Finally got back to the coach today to give connecting the Android single DIN radio another try..  After connecting everything, I still got nothing. I spent a hour of connecting and testing before checking for power at the rocker switch.  No voltage! Then it dawned on me that the "salesman" switch was off.  The radio worked, but was not getting a signal from the Audit computer because it was not getting power.  Big d'oh.

Now that there was power, I was able to get both the rear camera and the Audit output to display on the new screen, but both images are reversed.  Checked it on both the Aux application and the reversing camera input.

Is there anyway to flip the output from Audit?  I know some new cameras have a switch that flips the image.

While connecting/disconnecting the BNC connector from the Audit video out, I noticed the Javelina monitor image would clear up.  When the connector is tight, the image gets wavy, but if it is loose, it is almost perfect.  Wondering if I just need to replace the BNC connector....at least as a short term solution until I replace Audit or come up with another solution.

Ditto for SeeLevel system.  Also installed monitors in bathroom and wet bay.

Ditto for backup camera solution using existing wiring.  Previous owner somewhere along the line installed a wireless backup camera.  It works most of the time but occasionally loses its wireless signal so will soon be replacing with a wired system.

But, rather than install in the dash...as most are...I've grown fond of having the monitor mounted below the overhead cabinets in about the same place the backup mirror is in your car.  After so many years of looking in the "spot" for the rearview mirror I have found it works perfectly not only for backing, but most importantly, while driving.  While driving I use the two side mirrors and the "backup camera"...just like in the car.  I'll post pictures when the new install is complete.
