Contactor/Large relay under center console?

Anyone know what this 120VAC contactor behind the TV cabinet is for? Seems to be normally closed and powers the outlet directly below it.

One of the control wires has been cut, and I haven't been able to trace where it goes yet.

While I'm learning here, any reason why this passenger side outlet is mounted to face the plywood "firewall"? Is it just used as a split out for other power runs and not intended for plugging in? Seems like an odd choice for a junction.

Thanks!

That is probably the item which disconnects power to the TV when the ignition switch is on.

That makes a lot of sense! I didn't know that was a "feature"!

We are rebuilding the cabinet in this area and won't have a TV here so I will just remove it.

Thanks!

To answer your other question, Yes they used that as a junction box.  You will find them hid in several spots just like that.  Under the sink in the bathroom is another poplar place to find one like that.
