Re: shelf Bottom Removal

Is it even possible or has anyone ever removed or opened up the carpeted bottom piece in the upper shelves?  There is a run of wires that have cable holders screwed into the wood with screw heads up so I assume they were secured before cabinet base board was set in. I don't really see a simple way to access. I was hoping to move the wire loom over a half inch???

Yes!  There are 6-8 screws per cabinet door section that run along the front and the back.  Take those up, and you'll have full access to the underside.  A mirror on a stick is very helpful in finding these.  ^.^d

I think Roger posted about removing it to install something and put a spacer between the bottom and the carpeted veneer.

A magnet helps to find the screws through the carpet.

They are mostly the same, remove the back panel then the ends and then the bottom.  Back panels are usually velcro at the top and a few screws along the bottom. Use a magnet to help,find screws, use a small but of painter tape to make the holes for reassembly. The end panel screws are easy to see.  The bottom uses screws as well. 

A thin pry bar helps in the removal process.  When I changed my halogen puck lights to LED I needed about 1/16" more clearance so I added a 1/8" spacer along the front edge of the bottom.  I stayed away from the ends so the end panels still fit.  There are lots of wires in the bottom space and in some areas in the end spaces. 

If you are just replacing puck lights there is generally enough slack wire to do that without disassembling the interior. If you are adding interior LED cabinet lighting with door actuated proximity switches the some disassembly is required.

It is worth some time figuring out how things are put together. If the time comes when you have to so it it will make the task easier.

I removed them in the cabinet over the microwave when I replaced the Koolmatic with a Fantastic Fan in order to run wires.
