Convection/ microwave

Has anyone changed out their old Sharp for something other than a sharp 1874T? Did the Sharp thing nothing but trouble( can't keep a touch pad working)  and no support.

Bruce, it is an easy swap!  Unless special order, all micro/convection microwaves are the same size, 29 5/8 inches wide.  We opted to go with a Samsung convection/microwave to match up with our residential fridge.  Bought it on sale and with my veteran discount, saved on the tax as well.  If you need info on removing your old, just PM me.  Will be glad to help or call, phone number is on my info page.  Enjoy your new unit!

We also went with Samsung have to change back mount and move cord hole in top to other side from original
As Joe said most over the range microwaves fit the same hole they may be a little taller or deeper but width is same. We have had it for over a year with no problems
Plan to be in Q In Jan if you want to see it

Look in the Renovations board - there are a number of us who have done that and posted photos of the process.

One of these days we will probably do ours too.  We would be hard pressed to do without the convection oven, we use it a lot.  GE Advantium was a popular choice a few years back.

Ours is the original also, it looks like new still. The instruction manual is gone, itll stay looking new. We can warm up anything in it. As far as cooking goes forget it. I was just looing for a new one, wow theyre expensive! Ill wait a few more years.

I replaced ours years ago with a GE Profile SS micro/convection unit. Very happy with it. I doubt I would buy a new GE anything now, horrible quality control now.

Be aware that some units like the Samsung have a zero clearance door. Most, like ours, require clearance between the door hinge point and the divider or wall next to the door hinge point. I had to move our dividing wall over (away) from the micro door in order to achieve this required clearance. Not a huge deal to me since I had to replace that wall anyway and had it all apart for the residential fridge install. For just a micro swap it might become way more of a project than just a simple micro swap.

Check out other brand's door hinge location. Sharp's hinge is not on the edge and easily clears side walls
