Recpro air conditioner

Anybody used one of these.
They come with a very nice remote control with temp display.
Unit looks good other than not really wanting heat pump. Just AC is what I was looking for , but the remote control is a game changer. Wonder why no one else has it? Atwood air command has one with no temp display, Plus it has a wall mounted thermostat that I will need to deal with. Loving the idea of remote control with display

RecPro.  Not familiar with that brand.

We have two of the Atwood Air Command (non ducted) units in our coach.  We have never used the remote controls.  They sounded like a good idea, but it turns out that when in use the units require very few adjustments - just set your desired temp and forget about it.  If I DO need to turn them on or off or make adjustment, the control panel on the unit is never more than 4 or 5 steps away...well within my mobility range.

It's like the car stereo head units with a remote control...when you can just extend your arm and control the unit directly.  Why?

Remote controls, in some circumstances, seem like technological overkill to me.

BUT we couldn't survive without the SIX different remotes we need to run our home audio/video setup!

Larry,

Earlier Foretravel coaches (like my U280) came from the factory with non-ducted A/C units.  Around the '96-'97 model year FOT converted over to ducted units and added the dropped ceiling with air outlets.  Unless you want a major reconstruction project, you are stuck with using whichever type A/C unit your coach came with.

I don't think you need to worry about how the Atwood Air Command units work because AFAIK they are no longer widely available.  Dometic  >:(  in their infinite wisdom killed that model when they took over Atwood.  I doubt you will have much luck finding one actually in stock.

Any replacement A/C unit that comes with a wireless remote control will always be less hassle to install.  Making the existing 5 button Dometic control center work with a new A/C unit might be easy, or it might be a nightmare, depending on your electronic skill level.

You say you do not want a "heat pump".  Why?  Many of the newer RV units are going to that technology, so you may have no choice.  For most operational purposes, you will never know the difference.  When you select "COOL" the unit will act like any conventional air conditioner, with one exception: the fan might run constantly instead of cycling on and off.  If you select "HEAT" a small control valve in the unit shifts position, and the unit runs "backwards" delivering warm air instead of cold air.  It's a very handy feature in some weather conditions.
