Air dryer service

Hello to all,
Just received the DQ6026 service kit for the air dryer. I personally have never done this before but about 1 year ago it was done by MOT.

 1-remove the fuse to the 12 volt aux compressor.

 2- put four supports for when I open the 4 reservoirs ( 3 in the front driver wheel well and 1 in the driver rear wheel well).

How do I know when the dryer has completed the purge cycle and the compressor is fully unloaded?

Is it always necessary to replace the pressure relief valve & purge shield?

There is a white piece of foam that came with the parts. Not sure where it goes.

Is this for a Pure air plus?

If so did you get the DQ-6020 lower housing repair kit? If not you may think about getting one of those as these parts are what move during blow down and need service just like the 2 filters in the 6026 kit.

If the engine is off the compressor should be unloaded once the dryer blows down. When you drain the "wet tank" this drains the air from the other side of the dryer.  BUT when you remove the hoses loosen them slowly just in case.

I always change out the pressure relief valve. It's in the kit for a reason. The foam is for keeping dust out of the pressure relief valve. It will most likely fall off sometime during the lifetime of the dryer elements.

I got the DQ 6026 Service kit as per beam alarm which brings the purge shield and the pressure relief valve assembly along with the retainer shield and heat resistant gasket.

The 6020 has Purge, Turbo Saver, One-Way Check Valve Assemblies that are not included in the kit you have.  If the turbo saver or purge piston fails it will leave you setting on the side of the road.

The 6020 was not listed on beam alarm.
It looks like with the 6020 I physically have to remove the complete air dryer since you say to loosen the hoses slowly.

The relief valve assembly is different than the purge piston that you mention.

Will have to order the 6020 at some point

Yes this is a gap in the site you mentioned along with some repair services. When I rebuild one here at the shop it gets the works.  It may be just as cost effective for some to get a quality re manufactured one from NAPA if you don't have the place to do a thorough cleaning.

Yes you will have to remove the dryer from the bracket.  Make sure that you install the discharge check valve and spring in the proper way.  One member here found after he installed his factory rebuilt unit that they had installed the check valve in backward.
