6v92 oil specs

Hey,

I have looked through my Detroit Diesel engine books and cannot seem to find the section or page number.  I have looked on the net and have found 22 quarts to 9 gallons.  Can anyone tell me the page number and capacity w/filter for my 1989 GrandVilla Detroit Diesel 6v92.  Thanks

Mr. Beam,

Thank you so kindly.  You are one in a million.  I will look more intently at my manuals to locate this page.

Curtis,

Our manual was also missing that page.

Not sure if you know but our 6V-92TA ONLY uses low ash, straight grade oil. Delo 100 SAE 40 (not Delo 400) or equivalent. Shell Rotella 40 is borderline with the ash content. Delo 100 #40 is inexpensive and easy to get from a Chevron distributor or order from O'Reilly's/Autozone.

Do a search on the forum for the Detroit Diesel and Chevron info.

I find it very difficult to impossible to find Delo 100 in quarts.

I believe it only comes in gallons and O'Reily has plenty

Good thing too as you would get carpal thumb from opening quarts. :))

Pierce;
I add oil by the quart, not prior opened plastic gallon jugs.

One more single viscosity oil that is well under the 1% sulfated ash content is Exxon XD-3 at 0.80 . http://theoilnet.com/Atlantic-States-Lubricants/pdf/Vehicle-Lubricants/Exxon-XD-3-Monogrades.pdf

Attached are 3 photos of piston/liner wear between a mono-grade SAE 40 and a multi-grade SAE 15W-40 oil. The lobe on the camshaft that drives the injectors also gets very high loading on a Detroit 2 cycle.

I just purchased Delo 100, 40wt from Orielly yesterday for $12.99 per gallon. I usually have to have them order it in from the Dist. Center, one day or less.

This maintenance synopsis is from the Red manual that came with my coach.  It shows Detroit 6v92 350 HP engines use straight 40 wt only and to change every 6000 miles.  As we all know, regularly scheduled changes along with an oil analysis should give you a heads up on engine longevity and confidence when rolling down the road.

Hi - Castrol Assuron SAE40 is another oil which meets the 6V-92TA specs. :)

Slightly more ash but Shell Rotella is OK also. I imagine straight synthetic will work even better even if not tested. It's just expensive for 5.5 gallons.

My last couple of oil changes have been Shell Rotella since I haven't been able to find Delo 100. Tractor Supply carries it but each store usually only has 2 gallons. I plan ahead and buy as I move from town to town or if I'm in a location long enough I buy wait a week then go back as many times as needed.

Mine takes 5.5 gallons. I've heard the general rule is 1 gallon per cylinder but not always.

I found that the distributor here has it or if not, can get it up here from Sacramento the next morning. Anyone close to the ocean should be able to find it easily at the dock. But, as you say, #40 Rotella T1 is easy to find anywhere so no reason to stress about Delo 100.

I did change to multi grade synthetic in our diesel generator.
