Major Generator Service

Have a leak in coolant system for the 10 kw Powertec. Also need to replace fuel lines. Have a friend that has a generator service business that will also help me replace lines will in Bay for generator SVC. Was thinking of pulling gen out of coach and doing major service. It has just under 1300 hrs. Insulation in box has deteriorated completely so adds to motivation to pull for SVC. Would like to clean paint, and insulate box. Paint or maybe powder coat pullout tray. Thinking will make those lines easier to pull too. Will do all new belts, hoses, filters and fluids. Will check the generator charge system. Is there anything else that I should look at or do while in there. Hoping coolant loss is hose or overflow reservoir.

Not sure what year/model coach you have, but I had to pull the fuel tank to replace the fuel lines.  The supply connection for the engine and generator are in the middle of the tank and impossible to reach without pulling the fuel tank.  Pulling the generator will not make it significantly easier.  It was pretty easy to pull the generator supply and return lines through the side of the genny compartment, into the cable/hose tray and into the fuel tank bay if you block up the coach.

If I was pulling the generator out I would put a new generator end bearing with 1300hrs it is time.

Do you have the remote radiator?  If so you might as well pull it and give it a good cleaning.

01 U320. Because of the condition of box and insulation just figured easier to pull generator and while out might as well go over from top to bottom. My guy will know but I want to make sure I get what I should without going to far overboard. I have the availability now may not 2-3 yrs from now

We have an '01 U 320 and about two years ago, Keith, at MOT, showed me my insulation and suggested we yank it.
I asked him what we should use, to replace it......he said it was really only for sound and that I wouldn't even notice the difference.
I remember my Foretravel owning buddy, Pete, telling me how "quiet" my greater ran.
When it DID run ( insider joke ).......I am not concerned about the noise level.
However....IF I were to pull the generator....?????????

Install a fuel pressure gauge and a temp gauge as in my old post. Our breather hose kept the tray dirty so I drilled and tapped the intake manifold, installed a fitting and brought the new breather hose over to it. Now the tray stays nice and clean. If your generator looks like ours, check the mounts from the bottom as you can't see much damage from the top. Don't pay high prices. Our mounts were less than $11 each, $71 total including tax and shipping. I went to synthetic oil also. Use fuel injection type clamps on hoses. Bet your leak is in the hose below the crank pulley. Gates or Dayco belt would be best but I had a new one in the drawer.

I have not pulled ours yet but changing the bearing is a good idea.

Suggest Hardie Backerboard over R19 as generator compartment liner. Get rid of all black stuff first.

You might find my post on generator radiator repair helpful. Removing the adhesive from the generator enclosure was a major pain. Great time for adding temp gauge and pressure gauge as Pierce suggested. Make sure you label the supply and return lines from tank. Mine 8KW so radiator info not applicable. My generator mounts looked good but the new ones really made a difference.

My generator mounts looked good but the new ones really made a difference.
Did you replace them with similar mounts, or something different?

Is ther any concern with just installing additional insolation right over the existing insolation in the Gen box, provided it is in reasonable shape?

Some have done that but in my opinion the old stuff is still going to keep disentegrating and get thru the new stuff and still end up
making a mess,take time and scrape it off.It may look in good shape but it's brittle by now.

I bought my mounts from ProTech website along with most other parts.

Where do I find the instructions to pullout the generator for  major service on a 2003 U320?

Some have done that but in my opinion the old stuff is still going to keep disentegrating and get thru the new stuff and still end up
making a mess,take time and scrape it off.It may look in good shape but it's brittle by now.
Spot on! And it could cover ventilation openings causing overheating to the generator section, not engine.  pulled it all out of my coach day one. Will eventually reinstall sometime down the road, works good for now. Couldn't tell you the difference, but it is still quiet enough for me currently.

Check out the products from "Noico" on Ebay,sticky rubberized foil,we put that on then more insulation over that.

Found mounts for generator motor. Tech products
Novibe.com .P/N. 61591-3. $10.71 each. Anyone have have a part # for taller 2 bolt mount that attaches to tray? Powertec quoted $403.80 fo r $44.00 worth of mounts
