DOT and EPA stickers

Can anyone tell me where to find the DOT and EPA stickers on 1995 Grand Villa?

I know about those stickers on cars and light trucks (DOT on the driver door jamb, EPA somewhere under the hood) but have never heard anything about them on old motorhomes.  I don't think our '93 has anything like that.  No emissions junk on our '93 Cummins 8.3

Who is asking to see them, if you don't mind telling us?

There is a metal data plate on my Cummins 8.3 mounted on the edge of the front cover.  See photos below:

Detroit 2 cycles have a sticker on the valve cover with all the engine specs and confirmation of meeting EPA and California emission requirements. The below photo is off John Fitz's U300 with the non-Jake valve cover. Thank you John.

Interesting.  I've crawled all over our Cummins 4-stroke and I've never seen any sticker like that.  Wonder if it was only required on 2-stokes?

Chuck,

No, all Detroits have them. Below is an example of a 60 series 12.7 liter valve cover sticker. Note that the above sticker for the 6V-92TA has 400 hp instead of the 300 or 350. Detroit delivered the 6V-92TA in up to 620 hp for boat use but expect they did not have EPA/California approval for road use. The 350 hp spec engines used in 92, 93 and 94 could not meet smog specs so the U300 went to mostly CATs in 1995 but they would not meet smog in 1996.

The stickers give not only the HP but the timing specs, the injector duration, etc. The Pro-Link 9000 reads out the same specs on it's display.

Your Cummins or CAT should also have a sticker. This is an example of the 15 liter 600 hp Cummins spec sticker.

Where would it be located on a Cummins?  Seems like the valve cover would be the logical place, but I don't have one there.  Perhaps the engine was steam cleaned some time in the past and it came off.

Edit:  Further investigation in Cummins QuickServe Online for my engine revels the fact that there might be TWO data tags on the front engine cover.  (See diagram below compared to my photo in Reply #1)  I have only seen one tag, but the other one might be covered up by the power steering hydraulic reservoir.  I will get out there today and poke around...see if I can find the other tag.

My Cummins dataplate, sticker/tag, is on the gear cover 1997 U295 .  It has some EPA info, engine #, hp, date of mfg, etc.

I noticed huge prices for these tags/stickers new on ebay. Expect it's to be able to turn up the HP on the engines to the serial number on the sticker. I know Detroit won't add HP past 350 unless you have an fire dept or marine serial number. Her.e is a quote from someone who wanted to replace his sticker. I did see some stickers for over $250

"I finally got my replacement Data Plate for my 1839 4BT. They are no longer aluminum plates with stamped data. Cummins now uses a PLASTIC STICKER!!!!!!:puke: Not an emblem, I mean a plastic sticker.! I will mount mine to a metal plate, probably stainless to avoid any issues down the road.

I don't know what the exact process entailed but I had already registered my engine via my QuickServe online acct. Cummins had already sent my EVERY bit of info on my particular engine. I just wanted the plate to finish the details on my engine once I'd finished detailing and outfitting it to my needs. The sticker was roughly $100 and took a couple weeks to get, if anyone wanted to know. I have no inside track or info. if you need one you must contact your parts dealer yourself."

Well, I found out my C8.3 actually has two metal data plates attached to the edge of the front engine cover.  I knew about one of them, but was not aware of the other.  The second one is hidden down behind the power steering pump hydraulic oil reservoir.  I tried taking a photo of it, with partial success.  I will try cleaning off the caked on grease and dirt and post another photo if I can get a decent shot.

I found a listing for a used 1993 Cummins C8.3 online.  They show a photo of the second engine tag that I can only partially read on my engine.  Photo below.  The part number on the white tag matches the black tag on my engine, so I believe it has identical wording.

This smaller tag is probably the closest thing the OP is likely to find for a "EPA sticker" on this engine.  (See first post in this thread)

The majority of the decals are for Series 60 engines.  The reason is 99 and older engines are ELD exempt. Electronic Logging Devices. The earlier engines are put in new glider trucks and paper logs can be utilized then. A lot of owner operators feel they cannot make a decent living using Electronic logs. The decals make the engine look like it is earlier than it may actually be.
