PowerTech Generator suddenly shut off.....and the fix
My 2002 10KW PowerTech Generator suddenly shut off. Opened up the covers and tried to start engine at the generator. Right off noticed the hose between air filter & intake manifold collapsed. It's like a radiator hose. Seemed like the intake was blocked and it wasn't the air filter. With the filter canister open the generator ran fine. Several posts mentioned this situation. I couldn't see much back there and very little room to reach and feel around. Got out my borescope and looked around but it was confusing. "mck1962" had a good description that makes sense now. There is vertical hose like a snorkel attached to a large black drum behind the exhaust manifold, that provides the intake air for the generator going through the air filter. That hose IS the intake air itself going into that drum then routed over to the air filter. The fresh air comes into the generator box through the rear louvers behind the generator.
Generator hose
Well, the insulation in the generator compartment roof had fallen down, and was blocking the intake snorkel. Once I removed the foam above the snorkel it ran fine.
Future job to replace all the generator bay insulation.
