Delamination question

We have our '03 U320 3820 at Xtreme for some cosmetic repair. Greg called and said they had found a large area of delamination under a scratched/gouged area on the passengers side in the wide dark blue close to the top above the wheel well. We bought the coach in Oct 2018 and having heard about delamination problems I have looked but not noticed anything. I probably just didn't know exactly what to look for. Greg said he could repair the damage without repairing the delamination but if we were planning to keep the coach we should repair it. My thoughts are if it needs repairing I would repair it whether we are keeping it or not. I would be interested in anybody else's experience with delamination and issues to be concerned about if not repaired. The picture is of the damaged area where the delamination is.  https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?action=dlattach;sa=tmpattach;attach=post_tmp_5985_e031f2056823b8b6f2704981cad78b72;topic=0

Hi Brad, it is never fun to get unexpected news.  Xtreme is good at seeing these issues, they have see a lot. And they are good at fixing them correctly the first time.  Generally this is not a delamination in the layers of the skin but a bond line failure between the coach side wall frame and the skin itself.  Lots of tries at reattaching the skin by injecting glue etc but there has been little success.  So the side needs to get opened up, bond lines cleaned and reglued and fiberglass repaired, and pain fixed.

This may have been impacted by moisture intrusion along the upper rear edge if the slide opening, moisture from the dryer vent if it is not sealed well, or even possibly from the seam line above on the side wall to roof.  All should be checked when the repair is done.

You have a very nice and desirable coach. I would fix it for your use and maybe future owners as well.

Thanks for the explanation Roger. I had not thought about the skin actually separating from the frame. That makes since why I didn't notice it and why they would have a hard time taking a picture of it.  My initial inclination was to have it repaired and even more so now that I understand it better.  Thanks for the compliment too. I think you can say that about most any Foretravel. We were very fortunate to learn about the Foretravel name during our search.
