Do you think this trim is nailed on?

I'd like to replace the TV in the bedroom with a smart tv that works on its own remote & not tied into the FT sound system (which I find ridiculously complicated).  First step is getting access to the TV.  As best I can tell, this trim is nailed to the frame.  Thats different from my 2009 FT where the trim was on bayonet closures, similar to the cabinets.  Am I going to have to pry this off?  Is there a trick to it that someone with some experience could share?  Thanks!

David if it is only nailed you should be able to go from the inside to keep from marring the wood around the trim.  I would use a thin pry bar and ease the trim off, or a small hammer may be able to loosen the trim and remove it.  You will still have some refinish work to do under the frame.  If the frame has also been glued that will be a different animal but I would not expect that it was glued.

If that is original trim, maybe not, it has been off before.  Holes would have been filled at the factory.  Get a thin pry bar for trim and start on the upper corner least likely to be noticed if you mar the surrounding wood.  Once you get it up a bit put a thin piece of paper board under the end to minimize marks.

Get some nail hole filler sticks like this, available in many colors, use some of one and some of another to mix to match.  Available at most big box stores and hardware stores.

I knew it was probably nailed ... but was hoping otherwise.  Thanks for the suggestions, especially about prying it loose from the inside.  I do have a small trim pry bar.

I'll have to decide if we want to tackle it before we leave (two weeks time).

Well I don't have the same trim around the TVs that used to be there what was there was nailed on was easily removable. The trim around the coach that separates the wood below to the wallpaper above is also nailed in with Brad nails. My guess is just give it a try with a very thin pry bar and a thin piece of wood underneath it between that and your wood around the trim and see how easy it is to get it off. There may be a little bit of wood glue holding the edges together I don't know. I have a different TV surround than you have.

Sure looks like brads stapled in with an air nailer. Work it a millimeter at a time (remember that commercial?) all around. Just keep going and it won't be long before it falls to the floor. Depending on what's behind there the brads may come with the frame or they may stay attached to the wall. If they come with the frame they are likely to be blood-thirsty. If they stay attached to the wall you should be able to clamp on with a vice grips and just roll the brad out.

Thanks David ...

I should have updated this.  I got it off ... a bit at a time with a trim puller and a piece of rubber to keep from scratching up the woodwork.  They were nailed on with a brad gun.  I pulled out the remaining brads with a pair of vise grips, as you mentioned.

I ended up keeping the TV.  It worked fine .. it just wasn't smart ... so we connected a Sony DVD/Streaming box to it.  I also disconnected all the links to the AV Receiver & $700 programmable controller.  Its now a stand-alone TV with some peripherals hooked up that can all be operated from the bedroom. 

There was an empty space underneath that was covered in wire mesh - I guess so the tv could dissipate some heat.  I took the mesh out and & put in a shelf for the dvd/streaming player.  I'm happy because its a much simpler system with more flexibility.  I can hook my laptop up & stream movies from it, run youtube/netflix/etc.. directly off the box or play an old fashioned DVD.  I don't even have to pay someone to reprogram the $700 remote.  You might have figured out that I hate the remote.

I was waiting to completely finish it before I posted a final pic and summary.  My wife wants to put the trim back with some velcro.  She doesn't want me to nail the trim back in place.  I'm not in charge of that part of the project.  We leave for a long trip in a week ... so it won't be long.

My guess is FOT did not nail the trim on. They would have either velcro, screwed,  or used the something else so it would just snap on or off.

Final result.  Simple change.  I described it above but thought I'd share pics.  The pic with mesh grid is the original and the open shelf is the final.  The trim is now held on with 4 Command-style velcro tabs.  Each are supposed to be rated for 12 lbs.  We'll see how they hold up during travel. 

The eagle eyed among you might see that I haven't filled in the nail holes yet ... that'll be done after the next trip to Lowes.
