New threads extracted?

What am I looking at here guys?  Changing oil at home yesterday, and smacked adjustable wrench with rubber mallet to loosen plug.  Loosened and removed and it seemed a little different.
I see a copper washer sandwiched in there...  Am I thinking right that I've accidentally unscrewed the repair of previous stripped threads in the oil pan?  Options? Thread back in , and proceed to finish oil change.measure new threads, and try to find a oil valve with thread size/pitch to match ?

Yup, looks like that's what you did. I would see if I could find one of the quick drain type plugs to replace that one with. Of corse, you'll need to find out what size that heli coil is. Try the search function for changing the oil pan drain plug.

Thickest blame heli-coil I've ever seen.....
may red loctite this back and start using the side plugs.
I'll be measuring  pitch...etc. in the morning, and try to match to valves available

David,

That sure looks like one of the first generation oil pan repair kits from Cummins.  Now you can see why I never liked them. Your best bet is do as stated above and put in a No-Spill drain valve.

Funny how that thread insert is gripping the male thread.  HeliCoil brand inserts must be shrunk before insertion then grip the female thread tightly once released.
