New D2 governor

Recently installed a new Bendix D2 governor, question is, should it be adjusted to the cut in and out pressures of the old one? Considering that I'm not the original owner, I'm not sure what it was set at when it left the FT factory. The old D2 cut in at 95psi and cut out was 115psi. the new one now cuts out at 120-130 and cut in is around 110-115psi. Maybe I should lower it 10psi?

I have read on the forum that some members raise there D2 pressures to enable faster airing up of the tires, this isn't a big concern to me and I don't want to over pressure the 26 year old components of the old gal. Everything worked fine at the lower pressures.

I'm sure I'll get different opinions but I would like to hear them anyway....... :))

You old one was set too low. The new one is correct.

These are your brakes that we're talking about here.  Everything should work without fail at full system pressure.

I would think the brake cans would like the higher pressure. Also, more of a margin before the low pressure light comes on. Easier to fill tires if you don't have a compressor on board.

Mine is a 130 psi governor, on around 100 off at 130. Just my personal preference.

And ...  if you add more pressure to a system that's accustomed to 115.  Aren't you asking for leaks ?

If a 10 psi. increase causes a leak in the brake system the component was failing anyway. The air bags have their own regulator. My '81 Foretravel and '81 crane both are set for 130. The hoses are rated much higher.

I didn't say it was broke, if it's actually the 26 year old OEM part, I might would carry a spare one, might save you an issue.

When I changed my D-2 I set it at 130#.
I much prefer the extra pressure.

The high pressure safety relief valve on the wet tank is supposed to be set to open at 150 psi.  This might be considered the maximum working pressure of the air brake system?  I am confident the DOT components (air lines, valves, etc.) have a generous safety margin above this pressure.

I have our D2 set to unload at 130 psi.  I see no problem with running the air system at this pressure.  As always DWMYH.
