Set to high idle using Smart Wheel

I can't seem to set my engine on high idle anymore using the "Smart Wheel". With engine running, transmission in neutral, parking brake on, I thought I used to turn the cruise-control on, then hold down the ON button and press the cruise resume button and the idle speed would increase. This doesn't work anymore. Am I doing something wrong? And if not is there a way to diagnose the problem?

Dan, with engine at idle, park brake pulled, neutral gear selected, press and release ON/OFF button to turn cruise control ON.  Then push and release the "SET" button to increase rpm to about 800 to 900 rpm.  OR, push and release the "RESUME" button to increase rpm to about 1100 rpm.
