Where is the ECU sender for oil pressure?

Good morning Everybody,

Recently added a Silverleaf VMSpc for my newly acquired 2000 U295. After the install the oil pressure reading has been steady at 102.7-103 with no changes at varying RPM. The dash oil pressure gauge seems to be accurate fluctuating from 20-70. Having access to my dad's VMSpc, I swapped out mine for his and still get the same high reading on either VMSpc.

Here is the explanation from Silverleaf tech below:

Silverleaf (VMSpc) Tech: "These engines have at least 2 senders for Oil pressure. One for the dash, one for ECU and sometimes a third...dunno for what. Sounds like the ECUs' version of the story is wrong. However, the ISC often has not a pressure sender but a switch. In that case if the switch were faulty, it'd be an open or 'Low' pressure...not high.

So, a High reading is a specific bit of data and likely an accurate presentation of the sender. Its wrong, but its the precise story. If the dash oil pressure-gauge is measuring the SAME as it always does then I'd be swapping out that ECU-sender."

Before I take the coach to Cummins, I thought it best to ask the forum for advice. Is this ECU sender something I could locate and replace with a new sender? Where would it be located? Or is this a time to drop $$ at Cummins?

I appreciate any assistance on this one. Thanks everyone. Happy Friday!
Thanks,

You may want to check with WS6_Kieth something about a different cable that connects to the 12 pin connector. Solved his data issues.

Cummins no longer sells the original ECU oil pressure sender for our 1st year 1999 I(SC, and likely the same for the 2000 model year. Instead, they have superseding part number that consists of an oil pressure switch and wire harness pig tail that needs to be installed into the main wire harness and also requires an ECU update. I posted about it in a thread and perhaps you might find some of the info in there instructive.

Drew, the first thing I'd do is verify that your VMSpc gauge is linked to the correct PID.  In the advanced menu, go to the pid sniffer and it should give you a list of the channels it can see from the ECM.  In the manual, it shows PID 100 for Engine Oil Pressure.  This may not be the correct PID number for your coach, but see what that number is.  Is there more than one PID for engine oil pressure or oil pressure?  Write down the numbers.

Once you have those, go to advanced again, parameter editor.  Look for the engine oil pressure parameter and verify that the PID number matches what you saw in the sniffer.  These two things are also shown on pages 26 & 27 of the manual.  https://www.silverleafelectronics.com/sites/default/files/2019-10/VMSpc_4xB_Owners.pdf

Looking at your data port connection, are you using the 12-pin rectangular connector or 9-pin round connector?  Does your coach have both or just the one you are using?

Thank you for your assistance everybone. Keith, to answer your question, it is a 9-pin round connector.

I will give a few things a try and get back with you all sometime next week. I doubt I'll be able to get to this until Friday. Enjoy your week everybody. More to come.
Thanks,

This is not a PID issue, two different VMSpc systems were swapped between two coaches, in one coach oil pressure reads correctly and in the other it does not.  This is a coach specific problem.  I recommended going to Cummins to find out what is wrong and seek a solution there.  If the OEM pressure sender is now a switch then it is go/no go sort of thing. Oil pressure might be nice to know but low pressure is really all that matters in the big scheme of things.
