City Water inlet, leak, what's this thing?

Tackled one of the issues on the list today. There was a leak in the rear water bay and I saw some pooling in the bulkhead. (bulkhead will need repairs already, it's on the list) opened up the panel and found this thing leaking from the middle of the brass housing. What is it?

I just eliminated it and put in some new PEX. Leak fixed but curious what I removed.

That is your pressure regulator. If you are going to eliminate it buy one and put it between your camp faucet and the hose.

That's what I guessed but with the open hole through the middle I was confused how it would regulate pressure...I will use an inline one from now on. Thanks!

It's missing some parts. A spring and ball.

Ahh! That makes sense. Don't think I dropped anything out of it. I bet someone had it apart and lost them along time ago. Guess it's a good thing it leaked. What pressure is a safe psi on these coaches? Just curious.

I don't know the factory regulator pressure but if you buy a rv regulator off Amazon it will work.

I recall that 55 PSI was a good number. But as has been discussed. Live off your house tank and water pump. Just use the RV park spigot to fill your fresh tank. That way, If you do spring a leak in your plumbing you WILL NOT have an unlimited supply of flood water. We also make sure to turn off the house pump when leaving the coach or going to bed.

We use a Valterra like the items linked below.  Don't remember where we bought it...probably at Walmart.  It came set for 45 psi and that's where I left it.  Seems to work - our water pipes have never exploded.

My favorite water pressure regulator  (I have tried many, including high end adjustable)

Fixed Regulators

I have a regulator, then a filter, "permanently" plumbed in. That way I can't (maybe) leave things behind. Behind the factory inlet connection is a check valve. It is a bit of a process to get to, but not all that difficult - just take out a few dozen screws that hold two pieces in place.
