Alcoa Lug Nut Covers

Last week I noticed 4 of the lug nut covers on one of the rear wheels missing.  Back from a trip this weekend and notice a couple more missing from the same wheel.  I ordered some replacements and went around the coach a tightened them up on all wheels.  Quite a few loose, so doing that routinely (along with checking lug nut torque) needs to go on my list.

However, it did get me thinking about whether it could be something caused by excessive vibration on the wheel or axel.  New tires were installed and balancing done 5 months ago.  TPMS and a check with the pressure gauge shows tire pressure normal all around.  There is no indication of vibration or any other issues while driving. 

Probably just overthinking this and losing the first is causing the plastic cover to shake and loosened the other, but does anyone think I should be concerned?    From here on the forum it looks like losing lug covers isn't uncommon.  It just seemed odd to lose 6 on the same wheel over the course of a few weeks.

When I remove some, about a fourth of the plastic adapters break.  I think it is age, they are very brittle.

Maybe they were fatigued when the tires were changed.

I recently bought a bag off Amazon or Ebay.

I kee at least 6 good ones on each wheel to hold the covers on. I use a dab of silicone to hold the cracked ones on. Never lost one. Also never let a tire shop take them off.

If you have some deep pockets these are pretty cool. A lot easier to clean the wheels too! No lug nuts to clean around.
Side note if you decide on these there is another brand out there, I don't recommend them...

Alcoa 33 MM lug nut covers if they are screw on. Last I bought was 4 bucks ea bag of 10.

Glenn, yours are most likely 1 1/16" push on style.  Here ya go:

Joe'splace has a good price, but you have to buy 10.  In 10 years I am sure I have done so.  I seem to only lose covers from the same wheel. I now put a dab of silicone on the nut where the inner part fits and then screw on the cap.  Seems to have eliminated the disappearing caps.

My 2001 uses caps like the ones in Joe's link, not the push on ones.  If you go to FT they will sell you the screw on ones with the white or black inner threaded piece.

Timely topic. I lost 5 on one of my duals today. I've never lost one in the 2 plus years I've had the coach. Mine are the insert type like in Joe's post.  Since I am at Camp Foretravel, I just picked them up here.

Bought ours from a place down by the EAA Flyin in Oshkosh. It is Big Rig Chrome Shop - Semi Truck Chrome Shop, Truck Lighting and Chrome...
They have a variety of sizes so you had best know the dims of your lug nuts.
I also bought two of their tools for removing the lug nut covers. One tool is always in our coach in the event a wheel has to be dismounted. I don't want the covers pried off with a pliers.

I replaced all mine with the chromed metal covers. After having tire work done, I started losing them right and left, so I bought all new ones plus spares. New install pliers and new covers, and am good to go.....
