Entry Steps

How do you get the entry steps to retract when you park the coach and don't want them extended. I.E. in storage. There is a rocker switch by the entry door that says electric steps.
With the switch on or off it doesn't matter. With ignition switch off you open the door step extend. They stay extended when you close the door regardless of switch position. The only time they retract is when you turn the ignition switch on. It seems that somehow this switch has been bypassed or is inoperable. The little things that drive you crazy. 😂

You can try a magnet placed near the top or near the bottom of the door sensor to "fake" the steps into thinking the door is closed.

The action of the steps with the door is a safety "feature" implemented at some point.  Folks talking a loooooonnnngggg step down when they exited the coach having forgotten the steps were in.

The magnet fakes out the Hall switch, but you'll have to experiment whether it's needed at the top or bottom of the door sensor.

Not sure on a 2008, but the door sensor prior to that was a slim white-ish plastic thing on the leading edge of the door frame on the interior.

I think I understand what you are talking about. I noticed 1"x2" magnetic strip on the door jamb. I thought the storage people put it there to keep from accidentally locking the door. But once I gave it some thought. It was there when I bought it and doesn't block anything. Now you've just given me one more thing to work on. 😂

Now I know why people live aboard. You have to be there every day to keep up with everything. I'm a sailor at heart and came real close to pulling the trigger on a 45' blue water boat. A decent one the same age is about twice what I paid for this coach. It sits in salt water 24/7. But you have no limits. This rock is 75% water. They have all the same systems. So you can imagine the maintenance required. I decided a MH would be a better long term plan for me. I can go charter in the BVIs every year and get my sailing fix. But they are still a lot of work. But I enjoy the challenge.
