Aqua Hot service?

Going to FOT in a few days and one of the items I'm having done is a servicing of the Aqua Hot system. It appears to work as far as I can tell, does smoke a bit and smell like un burned fuel, but I told them I just wanted it serviced as I am a recent purchaser of this coach and have no idea of service records. I wanted the fluid changed out, and whatever else needs to be done to check and make sure it is functioning properly. They said they do not change the fluid but would check the level and check out the workings of the unit. Is changing the fluid something that needs to be done? How do you determine the percentage of the fluid? What are the normal items done in a servicing of this unit? Are their better folks than factory to service? I do not have any experience with one of these and am still just basically trying to figure out how it all works. Look forward to hooking up with other FT owners soon and maybe being able to ask some of these questions in person... until then, here I am...thanks

Keith,  The Aqua Hot fluid only needs changing if you contaminate it such as putting engine antifreeze into the coolant tank.

Burner service consists of changing the fuel filter, remove and clean the swirler and the chamber it came out of, change the nozzle, check the ignitor points for proper spacing and clean the flame sensor.  Re-install the burner and check for proper operation.

When you get to Nac, I am 2.5 hours south down Hwy 59 if you would like to have myself service and show you the process.  No bad questions when you are here.

Keith,
Go visit Rudy and watch him service the Aqua hot system. Take notes and ask questions. He will show you and explain everything. If you don't have the manual for your aqua hot it can be found here.

So your 2008 has the Aqua hot?  All the 2008 that I can recall seeing have the Oasis system. Wonder why they flipped back and forth?

Well, maybe I'm just screwed up and don't know what I have... I thought they were the same thing..the dealership I bought this from called it an Aqua-hot system, but they were pretty inept, ergo my factory trip for slide repair and servicing... now you got me wondering..I will have to go look... it might be oasis.. are they serviced differently? If so I apologize for my ignorance.. I'll get back to you all after a trip to storage....

Doesn't it depend on what model of AH you have to determine what antifreeze  you use.

If I am not mistaken my AHE-100-02S uses engine antifreeze. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

Rudy,
I, too, am confused about the anti freeze. I hope I didn't screw something up when I topped it off. Can you be a little more clear about what is engine antifreeze and what is needed for the AH?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all

I have had both.  Both are good systems. I preferred the oasis. Little noisier, but more reliable and easier to service for me. There are some good videos online to show the servicing of the oasis  if so inclined. They sell one, three and five year kits for servicing as well.

Rudy is definitely the expert but my understanding is the older Aquahot units (like the 431/12 in my coach) can use antifreeze or boiler coolant (one or the other but not mixed) but the newer AH units must use boiler cooler only. If I recall correctly, the older unit like mine has the heater coils wrapped around the outside of the hot water tank but the "newer" AH units have the heater coils inside the hot water tank. Antifreeze is poisonous and if the coils started leaking could be a problem if someone ingesting the water. Again, Rudy is the expert for the correct answer.

I would drive 2.5 hours before I would let anyone at FT work on it.

I would drive the extra distance, also. When I finally got to go to Houston, I spent time with Rudy and, aside from repairing my system, got to learn a whole lot about AH.
Also got to spend time with Roger and hdff, so a very rewarding trip.
FT won't let you into the shop area, let alone teach you self maintenance.
