Main propane valve on tank

A while back someone posted that this valve should be opened all the way to close something in the valve and stopping any gas leakage around the valve. Do I have that correct or do you back it off a tad from full open? I can't remember which
Thanks

I was always taught to open all the way for the reason you give.

It is referred to as back seating the valve.

And I replaced mine with new because the leak "in between" was impressive.
