Engine batteries are behind the passenger drive/tag wheels right next to the engine (at least on my '07 they are). Which is an awful place to put them for maintenance and replacing (thanks Foretravel!) When I replaced my engine batteries, I removed the muffler to gain easier access. No small job!

House batteries are in a separate compartment/bay on the passenger side.

The house batteries lie in the middle of the coach. You need to go into one cabinet and inside that cabinet there will be a panel to remove to access the batteries. It was not until later models where you can see them on the side of the coach. The starting batteries are located behind the tag axle on the driver side.

Wow. I guess the designers figured battery access is not important. I thought the position of the engine batteries was crazy. I guess I should be thankful they put my house batteries in a compartment/bay versus a hidden area as Bob described.

I do see where the new IH models put all batteries, Engine and House, in a compartment/bay. My previous coach that was a SOB had all batteries in an easy access compartment. And had them on a nice pull out tray too.

The battery location is not set necessarily for easy access.  Sealed gel batteries do not outgas and therefore do not corrode the terminals much.

The location is normally part of the left to right weight balance along with the front to rear axle limits

IIRC in 2002 (and maybe earlier), the Aquahot was located in that midline (somewhat hidden) location.  Given the AH annual maintenance (vs. relatively maintenance-free batteries), in 2003 the locations swapped to make it easier to service the AH without giving up the additional bay storage.

So there actually was a thought process involved.  Kind of a "least of the evils" decision.

So I've looked for this mystery access panel for the house batteries on my '08 Nimbus. Have yet to find it. You know what they say "a picture is worth a thousand words". Anybody have one?
Thanks

It shouldn't be that tough.  The consensus seems to be that they are mounted behind a panel on the wall of one of your storage bays.  It may be a bay that also contains a joey bed.  You may need to remove the joey bed to get at the panel.  You don't have that many relatively open bays to choose from.  Crawl into the bays with walls that are readily accessible.  Look for some sort of removable panel.  It may be camouflaged by the wall covering material.

Good luck!

In one of your basement bays, there is a side panel screwed on.  Batteries are hidden behind that panel.

Try passenger side 2nd bay back from front first (which is where it is on a 03 U320.)

Edit: go with the reply immediately above first.

That is where they are on my 06 nimbus 336.  Next to the fuel tank.  No panel covering it. They can last more than 10 years if treated nicely. Someone claimed 16 years.

Look guys - Lets give Res777 a little credit.  If his house batteries were mounted like on Keith's coach - sitting in a bay right out in the open - he probably would have found them by now.

I think it more likely they are "hidden" behind a panel in a bay wall.  Perhaps not real obvious to a new owner...until they learn the secret.  Then they'll be like

Res777,
If like our coach, they are in the first bay on the passenger side where the Joyebed is located. Empty whatever you have out of the Joyebed then crawl in the compartment and look towards the back (aft) wall. You should see a panel about 2 ft sq held in place with 4 to 6 screws. If they aren't there, I'm at a loss, sorry.

Thanks for the brain refresher. I'm certain it's like several have said. They are behind the aft wall in the forward bay with the Joey bed. Next warm day I will will find those hidden screws. 😂😂
