Slide issue

The slide on my 2002 270 Foretravel coach works intermittently and currently, it is out and the slide light does not come on when I turn the key on. The leveling system is working and I carefully follow the protocol for operating the slide. It is a HWH 2000 series computer-controlled system. This issue has occurred 3-4 times in the past month and I have been unable to determine the cause and or what to do to correct it. I am surprised when it operates correctly and when it does operate it allows me to bring the slide in, but when I put it out again it will not function and the light will not come on with the key. It does not appear to be a breaker problem. I know this sounds crazy but if anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate the advice.

Could be a lot of things.  Connector loose, bad switch, etc.  HWH has some pretty good troubleshooting on their website and also the ops manual for your system.  The indicator lights on the HWH boxes can also give you some good info on what the problem might be.  The documents should also be available here on the forum.

I'm currently not home and can't access any of my documents but I have printed them all out and have them available in the coach when I need them.

Bob, what slide light are you referring to?  Is this the "please wait" yellow light on the slide actuation panel?

When I turn the key to operate the slide, neither the amber nor the red light comes on. For some reason, intermittently, the lights would come on and the slide operates normally to bring the slide in. Then, when I put it out again, and repeat the process, the lights will not come on and I cannot operate the slide. Currently, the slide is out and I cannot move the unit. I have had two mobile techs come by and neither could fix the problem and were not knowledgeable about the HWH system. I contacted support at HWH and I am hoping for a callback.

Check fuses in control box. Verify power from ignition is also powering up

Hmmm, my post disappeared.

Bob, where are you currently located?  If there's a HWH guy in your area, this group will know.

Given that the issue is intermittent, I'd start with the key switch.  Pull the panel and verify that you're getting switched power when the key turns.  Maybe it's just a bad or going-bad key switch.

MY home is in Kingsport, TN, but my RV is at a farm I own outside of Abingdon VA. I have checked the breakers in the bay area and they have power. I will remove the cover where the slide control key is located and check the connection there. I really appreciate you guys giving me advice. I am not very knowledgeable about the unit and need all the help I can get.

There is power going to the key switch on the slide panel but turning the switch on does not activate the slide panel. The leveling system continues to work. Could there be a defect in the key switch even if there is power?

I think Brad on here had a bad key switch not too long ago.    As stated before, remove panel, check and make sure you have  power on both sides when Key is on.

Might check the wires going to the control box and make sure the plugs are all tight.

Don't some model year slides have a provision for manual retraction (as a last resort)?  Thought I recalled reading something about that...

Yes you should see power on both sides of switch in on position. Have you verified getting Ignition power inside of your downstairs control panel. Mutable fuses there all will cause issues. Must check for IGN power with Ignition switch ON regardless of control panel switch position

I spoke with a tech at HWH today and he sent me an electrical schematic to check the lights on the PC board with the key turned on and let him know the results. I will do this tomorrow when I can get back to the coach. I appreciate all the advice.

I imagine this key should have 12V to it, and when the key is on, 12V coming out of it.  Do you have 12V switched (keyed) voltage?  If not, that brings me to the key switch.  To test, just jumper the two wires together to manually make the connection.
