Splendid thoughts

We haven't used our splendid once and I'm thinking about removing it in favor of extra storage. My only real hang-up is resale value. How important do you, or your DW/H, perceive the clothes washer to be for future prospective buyers?

We are not full timers so may not be that useful as a point of view, but we don't have one, and don't need one.
The connections in ours are capped and covered behind some cedar boxing, ready to be restored if we felt the need to install one.

As for resale value, I don't know if it reduces your options much, I bought one without it, I'm sure others would too. At the end of the day, your coach has to work for you, not for some other person in the future. The next owner can personalize it as they want to.

Why not take it out and store it and it can always be put back in later.

As fulltimers, we will never own a rig without on board washer/dryer.

Elliott, the decision for us was easy: The washer dryer takes up 1/2 the hall closet, or as I like to think of it, the Cedar lined Wardrobe, so no washer for us.  Plus I'd rather go to the local laundromat and get everything done at once rather than one small load at a time.

So: Nope! Not a benefit.

The '81 FT had separate washer dryer DW wanted storage and we only dry camped so out it came. The '96 Monaco had The Splendide and again DW said remove it. The '99 we bought had the Splendide removed but everything was still there to install one. Made shelves and made DW happy. Dry camping one month at a time sometimes would take a load to the nearest laundry but we carry a lot of clothes and could get by until home.

Ours came with the Splendide. DW had mucho poor experience with one on our boat. Early in our travels she used again in the FT. She traded for more storage so we installed a closet chest of drawers that we the same size as the Splendide. Perfect fit, tons of storage installed with a few screws and drawer locks.

When we are campground host at some place like BBNP it is a must have
When we are just camping there it is useless.

Elliott, it was a no brainer for us!  We use ours all the time and it works!  Had to purchase a new one while at Yellowstone, NP and they are a little pricer now with the new style machine.  We paid just over $2200, but had to have it for the wife if we want to continue our full time living.  If yours works, I would say it was worth $800 to $1000 to the right buyer!  You can always come down, but when you check out those prices now, I'm sure they are even higher!

Our only real point that we insisted on was that the connections for w/d be present. Since we buy used we take what we get. This coach has the connections, and the closet is full without a w/d. If the w/d were in the coach when we bought it we'd just have less space for stuff we could live without. Stuff expands to fill the available space.

We generally like being able to do all of the laundry at once, so having our own w/d isn't a big issue for us. It is one of those "nice to have" things.

I pulled ours out years ago and put it in the house next to the full size washer and dryer. I use it for special small loads that I want to wash and dry without having to come back after a wash cycle and move to the dryer.
In the Foretravel I replaced the Splendide with a stacked Bosch Axium washer and dryer for more capacity.

It seems you're all split about 50/50. I think we'll keep it for this summer and put it into storage when we get back home. The wife really wants a dish washer under the stove top now. I'm less than a month into this trip and already have a list of projects the length of my arm.

Thanks all
