Your old King Controls Throttle and cruise. WANTED

Hey all. It's been awhile since I posted. I'm still around.

I'm interested in ALL removed King Cruise units. I don't care about the condition. I want the parts for various reasons: 1) to keep my RV running and B) perhaps come up with a solution to repair existing King Cruise Control units or design a drop in replacement.

Does anybody have a direct number to the former owners of King Cruise controls?  I'm curious if they'd be interested in selling their old stock and designs.

Thanks in advance.

If you Google "Steve Boler Cruise King LLC" you can get some location info and perhaps a current phone number.

Since Cruise King went out of business more than two years ago, and there are literally hundreds (perhaps thousands) of owners of multiple makes of coaches looking for parts for their obsolete systems...I'd say the chances of finding a stash of new old stock parts is pretty slim.

But, never hurts to ask!

I read some time ago that there were about 6000 king control
units in rv's. I also know they were used in other types of
equipment in the farming industry. a friend of mine who used
them in his manufacturing business described them as being
fairly trouble free.
I wonder how many units are actually in use, and what percentage
have a failed.
mine seems to look fine and has never been a problem.  before
I replace it, I will wait for it to fail, with my emergency throttle
string at the ready.

Installing a cooling fan is on my list. Purchased coach with 50k miles on the clock, reading through the prior owners service records I'm running on the 3rd. replacement of the King Control box. Now with over a 100k miles it has always had some issues after prolonged steady RPM.  Throttling back to 0 seems to reset to proper function. I have one of the old boxes that I carry for spare parts if it comes to that. My emergency throttle cable and stick are at the ready also.

Mine has lost speed under cruise control for years (zero throttle resets it, as well), and I meant to send it back to King for a rebuild, but never got around to it....and then they went out of business.

Could you open up you spare box and take a lot of pictures? I want to see what is inside but I do not want to disturb mine.  If possible, maybe I could design a retrofit. But I need some old units to dissect.

I'll try to get hold of another Foretravel owner that lost his throttle control box this Winter. We had it apart and appeared the motor had worn out. I'll see if he still has it and can take some pictures of the internals. I'm reluctant to open my spare up before confirming there's something wrong with it knowing it was replaced with little time on it.

Doug, thanks for looking into that for me.

Another option is to use off the shelf components from the auto world. I think a cruise control actuator from a car may be my method of replacement.

Why reinvent the wheel?  The readily available Rostra kit has been mentioned on the Forum in the past.

I'm aware of the Rostra.  I plan to call and talk to their application staff.

Krush, some pictures inside the box from one what sounded like a worn servomotor. Even if he could repair it he's not interested in reinstalling something that has such a high failure rate. Best he could do with his trusty flip phone.
