Oil change intervals

I was just reading the oil should be changed every 6 months? The previous owner serviced engine and changed the oil once a year. Wanted to see what everyone else does?

Based on time (vs miles) I agree, once a year is fine.

Yes, if you do a lot of idling (not recommended), more frequently.

Given the costs associated with the oil and fluid changes, I have started sending oil samples to Blackstone Labs to be tested when I think I'm getting close to a change time.  Their reports and summary give good info.

I'm happy to know that my trans fluid, supposed to be good for 150k, and currently has 25k on it, is good to go.  As I figured, the 2+ year old and 12k mile oil was ready to be changed.

Thank you! I just had the transmission serviced with Transynd, so that will be good for a while. I was thinking once a year on filters and oil.

With a bypass filter and synthetic oil, I replace the engine oil, engine oil filter, and bypass filter every five years (circa 25,000 miles). The practice of disposing of ten gallons of oil every year does not feel "green" to me.
In my opinion, the most important modification for extended oil change interval is a By-pass Filter. I installed the AMSoil By-pass Filter in 2011 which keeps the oil free of wear particles large enough to score bearings for up to 75,000 miles. I plumbed the return line from the bypass filter into the fitting on the top of the engine valve cover. I support this extended oil change interval with the annual oil analysis done from 2012 to 2016. My 1996 Cummins M11 has 140,000 miles now. At 125,000 miles Northwest Cummins in Medford, Oregon, adjusted the valves and the Head Mechanic said that was the cleanest engine he had ever seem ( after 25,000 miles with a bypass filter).

Nothing about your coach is green.. Especially the oil but if it does help the "oil" came from the ground like most the materials its built with .:)

1yr. or 6k miles oil change, slip under hit the grease fittings 2 times per year along with taking the weight off front end yearly for greasing Kingpins.

Not to stir the pot. But with improved oil additives in the past 20+ years, and improved filters, just can't justify changing low mileage oil every 6 mos. Check out the new oil change intervals on the Cummins ISX.
