water dripping onto black water tank from above?

Hello!

New Foretravel owners with a 1996 U320, and we are having a leak in the toilet we haven't yet been able to pin down! Here is the scenario: Anytime the water to the toilet is on, a leak outside the RV occurs in the bay that contains all the water tanks. Water (seemingly fresh) pools up on and spills onto the blackwater tank and eventually onto the floor from above. We replaced the wax seal on the toilet, no luck. Looking into the bay with all the water tanks, there is a puddle forming around the base of the black flange (I think? the black pipe connecting the toilet to the tank). The water is dripping from above off some caulk around the hole above. Looking into the toilet where all the wires and hoses are, it looked a little damp so we tightened one of the hoses, but the leak so far seems worse! The toilet is a Microphor Microflush. When the water to the toilet is turned off, there does not appear to be any issue. Water has not been puddling up inside the RV, but it has looked a bit damp around the toilet workings. It's hard to see without removing the toilet, which we are not very eager to do, as we had trouble getting it back on after replacing the wax seal. Imagine this might be inevitable! If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Will get pictures in daylight!

Is it when on the Rv water tank or when tied into House pressure... I am having the same issue that only seems to be a problem with higher pressure than the rv pump can pump the psi at... Added a water pressure regulator and has helped for a temp fix.. When I get back from vacation its on the list to tackle..

If its on both House and rv pump... water line behind the toilet comes through the floor in that area and when leaks it will take the path it find easy and fun... So it can jump a couple pipes by dripping or touching as it flows... Fun times

Tarabee,

When new that toilet (Microphor) came with a pressure regulator on the inlet water. They have been known to seep due to age of the internal seal. You may have a cracked fill valve body; it is made out of a black plastic material and if cracked the crack is hard to see. When you replaced the wax ring did you happen to replace the cone seal on the water supply?  That fitting can crack so don't overtighten.

tarabee,

Welcome to the ForeForum.

In addition to finding the leak, it is important that you dry and keep dry the basement floor under the wet bay.

Water on that floor works its way down into the rear bulkhead (plenty of posts about bulkheads) and rusts out the box beam sub-structure.

We ended up taking it apart again after I posted this, and you're right on about the fill valve body! (Though i did not know it was called that!) Also opted for a non wax seal while we were at it.

Sadly this is also right on hehe. Hadn't put this together as the cause. Good to think about as we keep eyes on our repairs. The fore forum has been incredibly helpful! Our couple of previous owners maybe not so much haha :)

A wax seal on an rv toilet is not needed. Use the foam ones specific to your toilet.

I would state it stronger than that-- do NOT use a wax seal.  The movement going down the road breaks their seal.

The foam/rubber ones are able to absorb the movement and stay sealed.
