1995 U320CSE fuel pump bad in generator

When we picked up our new to us 1995 U320C SE
In November the generator was running.

I ran for an hour till we got to our first campground but then wouldn't start again on the way to the next campground.

We had a guy changing all the fluids yesterday and he determined the fuel pump is bad.

It's a Kubota fuel pump 476459.
When I search for that number they all seem to have a letter after that number.

Am I better off just to call a Kubota dealer to see if they have one or does anyone have a source?

Susan,

I think you are on the right track by Google searching the old pump model number.  That same style pump is available from several sources.  I wouldn't worry too much about a slight change in the pump model number.  See the thread linked below for more info on how other members handled the pump replacement project (scroll down to Reply #11):

You could note your model and serial numbers and call Power Tech. 352-435-4404 I've found them to be responsive.

If it looks like the fuel pump that Chuck links to, it's just a garden variety Bendix, Facet, etc, etc. fuel pump. It should produce around 4 psi and have the same size ports to make installation easy.  This is what you should look for: 12V Electric Fuel Pump 149-1828 27149-2093 149-2093 For Onan T41054 40261...

You do have to make sure the pump is at fault as I never trust what any shop has to say. The leading suspect is the fuel supply line as it cracks and lets air in so the generator may start but quits after a few seconds. The pump also has an internal filter on the bottom. You can access it with a 5/8 inch wrench. It can be cleaned then or replaced. Easy.

When the generator switch is in the glow position, the fuel pump should make a ticking noise. I put a guage on my generator secondary filter so I can read the pressure..

Don't get ripped off as the pumps should cost between $25 and $50 depending on the seller. They are found on many generators, cars and small planes.

Here are a couple of modification to make your generator easy to check the temperature and fuel pressure. The little "T" handle shown in one photo is used with the electric fuel pump to get rid of the air in the system when you change the spin on filter. The temp gauge is a 5 minute installation, the pressure gauge takes a little longer plus some tools and a tap. The last photo shows the pressure the electric pump should put out with the generator running.
