slide valace removal

I would like to do some clean up and maintance on top of the front slide.To do so the interior valance needs to be removed. does anyone have information on the steps required? 2002 U320

The upholstered inner panel on the uprights is velcroed on.  Once you remove that peice you will see a few screws (likely square head).

I think an '02 has solid wrap on the slide surround, not the inserts.

If you're talking about the slide valance there is a dozen or so screws under button covers. Once the covers are removed it will reveal the vertical screws. Mine were all in place but most broke do to corrosion when rotated. Screw shanks were 70% gone. Will need a second hand to hold during removal. A lift could also be used, although I never have.

On my 2002, the upholstered side panels are velcro'd on.  Then the horizontal screws behind them are removed.  As dsd said, there are vertical screws into the header under button caps.  The header is attached to the two side panels with a wooden block and multiple screws on the back side, top corners.  You can reach them with the slide in.  I take mine apart in three pieces, but you can take it out as a one piece arch.  It will be very heavy and awkward if you do.

While you have it out, you can add some wooden blocks to the back of the top, horizontal piece that will act has supports.  You can then lift it into place and hang it on the supports while you put the screws back in.

Thank for the Tips, I'll give it a go. the factory achieved a great Finnish look not a fastener insight, had me stumped.

Some, including ourselves, permanently removed all side valences. It opened up the interior with better looking walls.

We stored the side valences and left them off for a few months to see if we would like the open look before committing to a permanent look.

Barry I think you are talking about window Valences. I too have considered but DW would never go with no window shades Slide would really need it to cover everything mechanical up.

Rain water traveling in when the slide retracts is what I'm trying to deal with . I have ZipDee slide awning, with the aluminum encasement for protection when rolled up. when it rains water drips threw the seems that where they join. it makes a hinge , 3 of them to form a tube around the fabric as I said when in the stored position. I have just installed a new exterior squeegee on top of the slide its OEM. Water still travels in on top when retracting. My plan... is to Build up a calk dam on the most inside edge of the slide fiberglass
roof so to divert water only to the ends , like by the drivers seat. Here I can reach it with a towel to dry it up. Now, it runs on to the over head valance where nothing good occurs. Staining, rusty screws and so on.
Any insights welcome. the obvious  , don,t have ZipDee awnings.

So the HWH operation manual says to tilt the coach to help clear the top of the slide. Also says to be level normally. Crazy the first time you retract the slide and take a shower. Im thinking a silicone wiper may be the solution? A squeegee on a stick and sweep it off before you retract? Last months deal with the ice on my coach slide could have been real bad I think. I did have a towel on a stick to help clean up and dry the top after being retracted. I see no problem with building up a diverter. My new bladder prevents water till retracted well.

Thank you Scott... For my good laugh when I realized adding "L" to "side" makes it refer to something else. Maybe this is a result of not having slides on our coach...

BTW, We did change oem shades to MCD which do not have side strings.

We also figured we would want to put sides back on, but tried it with them off, then put them back on and then decided off had a better look. No one would know how they look until they are lived in with them off.

I really think they take up a bunch of space. Not having them sounds good to me.  My slide has that goofy cabinet and the 2002 have a cabinet twice the size. Learning years. Window actual size is greatly reduced to those valences IMO

When we replaced our window shades with the MCD shades, we removed the side valences and left them off also. I don't see any benefit of having them on any more. JM3C.
