Generator coolant level sensor

So after a couple of years of use and no problems with the generator I discovered this yesterday.  The wires going to the coolant level sensor have been cut and taped off and hidden in the wire loom.  Coolant level is good so I assume the previous owner had a problem with the switch and this was his idea of problem solved.  There are only two wires going to the sensor and they currently read open with an ohmmeter.  Before I drain the coolant down lower than the switch, does anyone know the proper operation of this sensor and what the part number is for replacement?  thanks in advance.
